CDNN certainly is one to consider: http://www.cdnninvestments.com. (http://www.cdnninvestments.com) You might also find other possibilities if you look for local stores that specialize in sales to law enforcement. Many of those stores buy and sell law enforcement tradeins.

Glocks are especially good purchases that way, I think. I've seen some tradein Glocks that showed holster wear but no evidence that they were fired after being shipped by the factory.

Online or in your area?

Also what kind of gun are you looking for? Glock?

If you don't mind buying online then you can try J&G they usually have a good selection of trade-ins. http://www.jgsales.com/

has police trades - though they just list most as "preowned" - here's the Smith 5943 that I just bought for $279:

http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//500/medium/HPIM1030.JPG

This is a 9mm, 15 round capacity, stainless slide/alloy frame, DAO

I also bought a Sig P220 from them for $379:

http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//500/medium/HPIM1011a.JPG

Here's the link to their site, but you need to call to get access to all inventory - the site only lists a partial inventory: http://www.southernohiogun.com

ETA: these come with one mag and no box/manual - also, there is holster wear - a little more than shows in the pics but the bores and innerds are excellent.

Connie (ext 208) is good go work with.

I've had very good experiences with these folks and have been buying C&R and other guns from them for many years - only got one bum deal during the whole time (a SMLE who's safety didn't work) and they took it back no problem.

Are police trade in guns similar to rental car miles?

Are police trade in guns similar to rental car miles?

Sure, well maintained mechanically, cosmetically may show some wear.

The big thing you're going to notice on police trades is they will have a lot more cosmetic wear. If you don't mind how the gun looks on the outside then I see no reason not to buy one. I would highly doubt that a police trade-in is going to have more rounds through it than your average used gun.

And quite possibly, far FEWER rounds through it.

I think police guns are typically shot infrequently and cleaned even more infrequently. I have only bought three, so I don't exactly have a vast amount of experience, but all three were in dire need of cleaning. They weren't abused, just filthy, and cleaned up nicely (shoot pretty well, too).

+1 for Summit Gun Broker. They were great to deal with.

I also had a good experience with CDNN.

What is the difference in the S & W 5943 above and the 5946 I purchased from Buds? Looks the same, DAO. I jumped on the $259 delivered deal about a month ago from them.

I'll also jump on the summit gun broker band wagon. I bought a used G19 and was very happy with the price and condition.

Seems like every time the police shoot at someone they fire 40 rounds and only hit em twice. These guns are not very accurate! rofl:neener:

To give you an idea of how cops deal with their weapons, let me describe the way I've seen USAF security forces deal with their weapons. Every 6 months, they come out to our range and depending on the command, will fire either a 90 round AFQC course of fire or the 50 round PPC course of fire. They clean them and for the rest of the time, they are loaded when going on duty, unloaded when coming off duty and that's about it. Each year we do an annual inspction and when they deploy, we do a pre-embark inspection and another post-embark inspction when they come back. Needless to say, our guys don't really fire their weapons all that much. They however do take a beating getting in and out of vehicles an a lot of holster wear. Again, most of the damage we see is cosmetic. Now how that compares to a civilian law enforcement agency I can't say and I'm sure each agency has their own course of fire and scheduled range days but I'm sure that they also have the same finish wear but good mechanical condition the military guns have. I know my P220 and P226 (both ex-cop guns) fell into this catagory with finish wear and dirty as a perverts imagination but mechanically sound.

How 'bout we talk spcifically about revolvers? Any good outlets that specialize / carry good selections of police trade-in revolvers?

Always looking for a gem of a wheelgun.

Both Summit and CDNN do.

CDNN currently has a bunch of S&W M64s and M65s.

Earlier this year, Summit had a bunch of S&W M586s and M686s of various types.

I've bought several over the years.
6 S&W 5 shot .38 revolvers from the Lansing PD.
And 6 Rem. Wingmaster shotguns from the Florida Hi-way Patrol.

Of all of them, none had been fired enough to wear the blueing out of the barrels. All but one of the shotguns only showed the streaks from the proof house load. After I fired one about 10 times, then it looked like a used barrel.

Of the 5 shot revolvers; they all had holster wear, but 3 of them had never been fired except for S&W's 3 shots when they proofed it. The other two cylinders had never been fired. The others had only the faintest 'ring' on the back of the recoil shield. My guess- they'd only been fired 20-30 times.

I'd buy surplus Cop guns in a minute.
They're old, they're worn, but most Cops just don't shoot them much.
Even if they use thier duty weapon to re-qualify every year---
how much is that anyway,,, 50 shots or so?

In my experience, as long as you get a chance to inspect the actual gun you're buying, you can find some really good deals w/ the police trade ins...the ones I have were lightly shot so are in good mechanical condition but show some holster wear...
good luck

On a whim I ordered a police trade in S&W 5906 from Summit a few months ago and it turned out to be a very nice pistol. Some holster wear but I don't think the gun was actually shot that much. I ordered it with an extra mag and paid a little over 300 bucks and am very happy.

I have never ordered from CDNN but I am sure they are fine.

Only gun (so far) I ever bought online is a S&W 5904 police trade. Same as most posters, mine shows holster wear, but has been functionally perfect for me (I did replace the recoil spring-I do that with any older used pistol.)
I carried it as my daily go-to-work gun for several years, and it's now in my bedroom. It's a comfortable, accurate, 15 round TDA 9mm, great to shoot.
Cost about $260, free shipping, from CDNN.

They still send me catalogs several times a year, have some great stuff for sale, great company to deal with.

Police officers who want to sell or trade guns should make a post in this forum (http://www.thehighroad.org/forumdisplay.php?f=22) or try one of the auction sites.

If you make a post in The High Road's Buy Sell Trade Handguns Forum (http://www.thehighroad.org/forumdisplay.php?f=22), please be sure to read and follow the rules, or your post will be removed there as well.

I would add www.gunsamerica.com . :D This is a great resource and you may find police trade ins/surplus weapons. In 2006, I bought a NIB Ruger GP-100(NYPD model) from a FFL dealer in AL. He found a few boxes of Ruger handguns and sold them online. I got a Hogue tamer grip and carry the .38spl on duty for my security jobs.
I also bought a NIB Beretta model 96D .40S&W that was a Beretta "Police Special" model for a Sheriff's Dept in TN. This was from a firm called R-Guns in IL. They may still have a few of these NIB 96Ds left. The price was $475.00USD. www.jgsales.com also sells police/LE trade ins from time to time.

Ok, I *really* hate to ask this, but am I just blind or does CDNN not list actual firearms on their website? Do you have to download the full catalog to see the firearms?

Am at work or I would just download it and find out.

XavierBreath

You dohave to download the catalog in a pdf file. The handgun prices say "Call", but if you call, they will tell you.

If you order something, they will mail you the catalog for about a year and a half afterwards.

Kevin,

I assume "We" means the Kielser's Wholesale in your signature. Yet when I go to the web site it says

"KIESLER'S ONLY DEALS WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, US GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, MILITARY, INDIVIDUAL OFFICERS, AND SECURITY AGENCIES. KIESLER'S DOES NOT SELL TO THE CIVILIAN MARKET."

Am I going to the wrong place or am I missing something?

Thanks!

I've managed to drive by on the way south twice and of course it was on either days you were closed or after hours. :(

I'm interested in a Sig.
