My son and I modified his 10/22 with a Hogue overmould stock & heavy barrel then added a Volquartsen hammer. Never knew shooting a .22 could be so much fun! 1/2" groups at 50yds are no problem. It's amazing what just changing the stock hammer for the VQ will do for the trigger pull. Dropped it from factory 6-8 lbs to just over 2lbs.

Decided it was time for Dad to have one too. Had to stay under $500 to keep the wife from going too balistic though.
Ordered just about everything from MidwayUSA, got a Fajen thumbhole sporter stock, Adams & Bennett compensated barrel, Volquartsen hammer and a Weaver style scope mount.
Went to WallyWorld and bought a new 10/22 (That was an experience in itself). Checked the local dealers & pawn shops for a used rifle but couldn't come up with one. Local dealers don't even carry new 10/22's or Rem. 870's because WallyWorld sells them less than their cost.
Got a 4-12 x 40 AO scope coming from SWAFA.
Whole thing ran just under $470.

Amazing the cottage industry that grew up around the Ruger 10/22. Me, I'd like to get that plastic housing that makes it look like the MG-34.

10/22's are kinda like old Chevy's & Harleys. Custom pieces / parts available everywhere, make it into whatever you want.

does the A&B barrel make a big difference in group sizes? or did you get to shoot it before the barrel swap??

I never really tried hard at shooting groups with it when it was stock, it's my boys gun so I didn't shoot it too often.
Before I assemble the new one I plan on taking the factory rifle out and see how it does.
The 1/2" groups I'm getting with my boys rifle are with Federal bulk ammo, if there was some match grade stuff available locally I'd like to give it a try.

The 10/22 is addictive, especially if you have a good trigger on it.

Play "Roll the Orange". Tons of fun for the whole family.
