Hey all - I would like to give a cleaning kit as a gift to a relative for the holidays. He currently has a mishmash of stuff but seems to be mostly covered in brushes and jags. His only rod broke recently, he has no mops and I have no idea what he is using for solvents or supplies (probably Hoppes #9 if I had to guess). I wanted to put together a nice kit for him that would either be a complete all-in-one type of thing or get a case or box and buy the pieces and supplies to fill it. I was hoping to get it from one source from a place like MidwayUSA or similar. This is what he has to clean: a .54 muzzleloader, several .22s, a couple 12 ga shotguns with multiple barrels, a nice 20 ga, a 30-06, a 30-30, a .243 and a Springfield Arms .40 cal XD handgun. Suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks!

I

First off get him a one piece rod for the smaller calibers.
Stronger and you don't have to worry about mismatched sections leaving an edge that could scar the bore. Also the cheap soft aluminum rods can pick up fine grit and cause wear to the lands.

I bought a wooden gun cleaning box for 28.00 at Walmart that has gun cleaning rest and came with universal cleaning kit from 17cal to 12ga. Though in a a one piece coated 22 rod 4.00 and 12ga shotgun rod and you will have a pretty nice kit for not to much money. Here is what the kit looks like http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=293328
