Brand new Single Six

I just acquired a brand spanking new 4-5/8" fixed sighted Ruger Single Six. Didn't need it but I knew once I saw it, my money was as good as spent. :p I like the aesthetics of the fixed sighted Rugers and I've found the New Vaquero's to be very accurate. The predictable result  is that it came home with me.

To further illustrate my lack of will power I couldn't wait to shoot it so I visited an indoor range :barf:, which I rarely do just to satisfy that urge... I fired 8 cylinder fulls of mostly the Federal Bulk ammo that shoots well in my other two adjustable sighted Single Sixes and was disappointed with the accuracy. I tried a few different brands of ammo and the Aguila Sub Sonic looks promising but still not getting the kind of accuracy I've been accustom to with my other Rugers.

Another thing that concerns me is that the point of impact is 3" higher than point of aim. On my Vaqueros the opposite was true and the front sight could be filed to raise the POI if needed. The front sight does seem mighty low even taking the smaller SS size into consideration.

I'm hoping it just needs some break-in and I need some repetitions with it to get it up to snuff. This weekend I'll put it though the paces outside. I'm hoping the better light will make a difference too.

Anyone else with a new(er) fixed sight Single Six? How does your's shoot?

Been told that these may not be continued long especially the shorter bbled models. They are one of the nicer looking ones. good grab!

JustsayMo: Sir; shooting high is a Ruger trademark. I do believe all are set up for 100yds. With mine; [6 different models] I haven't found a one that likes the sights at 25yds. At Rugerforum.com I asked about shooting high. They are all about Ruger; response was overwhelming; Ruger from the factory front sights are too high.

Why would a short-barreled revolver be setup to shot to POA at 100 yards?

TMann: Sir; beats me. History has it and experiences have duplicated same.
Recommenced repair: File the front site down.

Congrats on the new gun.

I picked up a well used Single-six at a pawn shop 3-4 months ago and am really liking it. It's been one of the more fun shooting .22lr handguns that I have owned.

filing the front sight would make it shoot higher :scrutiny:

I'll take it out tomorrow with all my 22lr and 22 mag varieties and see there is anything it likes that shoots POA

While I like the looks of the new fixed sight model, I really prefer the rear sight arrangement on my older Single Six.
