Is it just me, or do they do their shows to promote the springfield xd, the M&P, the s&w revolvers with their fantastic internal locks that are o-so popular, and the AR platform, which, unless cleaned after every time to the range, has a serious jamming problem, and leave most other guns in their cloud of gas-fed, eats where it poops, safety lock having dust? Hmmm, I guess i'll follow the money.

I don't know what to say. If Ruger sponsor's you, you use their stuff. Same goes for Smith & Wesson or Remington. All the major manufactures make good stuff. I don't have any problem with the Smith locks.

I'm not understanding. You would not promote the products of your sponsors?

...and the AR platform, which, unless cleaned after every time to the range, has a serious jamming problem, and leave most other guns in their cloud of gas-fed, eats where it poops, safety lock having dust?

Although I try to keep up with a regular cleaning regimen, I'm sorry to say that I don't always do so. This includes regular cleaning of my ARs which have not failed me with the exception of some Greek ammo that was out of spec (NPA headstamp, IIRC). At times not having ben cleaned in months between shoots.

Yes you are correct but I believe it is the advertising dollar. I was thoroughly disappointed with Jim Scouten when they reviewed last years SHOT show. All the new camouflage patterns for the deer stands and new targets but no mention of Colt and the New Agent. I mean give me a break, an American icon has a new pistol for the public and Jim glosses over it. We did exchange a few emails and he explained he saw the pistol but there was not time allotted to cover it, with that he lost a fan.

The Shot Show debuts thousands of new products each yr. Jm is supposed to highlight the exact ones YOU wish to see? That means someone else misses out or it's a 3 day program. Guess you're not going to continue buying all the magazines either since they certainly didn't highlight each and every new item. Oh but wait...not all those new items were from "an American icon". Funny...I don't recall seing S&W, another American icon, have thier fragrances mentioned either. That's it...I quit watching too. :p

Springfield, S&W, and Tapco pay the bills. That's why they show off their products.

Its all about the money the gun or accy mfgr's spend to sponsor the shows. Money talks. This is also why I very rarely buy any gun rags. They are littered with biased "gun tests" that turn out to be not much more than a commercial.

Those companys sponsor the shows. It's as simple as that. I guess if the Daisy BB gun Company put some money in, we would be watching some air-gun competition somewhere. Most of the Wed. night gun shows on the Outdoor Channel have good parts/bad parts during each program. I don't have to watch Jerry M blasting steel targets with a built SW revolver. I don't own a SW revolver. I watch it because it interests me. I might be in the minority here, but to me, for the most part, a gun is a gun. Some of them are junk, no doubt. I'll probably never do any Cowboy shooting but I kinda' like watching it sometimes. I don't shoot a race gun in USPSA, but watching the likes of Todd Jarrett & his Para, or the Army pistol team tear up a stage 5 times faster than I ever will is good TV. My point is this. "Watch the program for what the program has to offer." When the Benelli, or the Ruger or the Mid-Way commercials come on., if you don't like em', don't watch em'! And if you don't agree with who the sponsor is of any program on television you have the right not to watch. Find something else to do!

I'm just happy to see so many gun shows on television.
Why nitpick them to death? It isn't like we here get it right 100% of the time.

oh,we may think we do,but the other members will soon correct out thinking.:)

And his smarmy son. The old man is known in the shooting spots industry as one of the biggest jerks extant---hated by anyone who has to have business dealings with him. HE is a cheat and a lier. As for that son...well, the apple does not fall to far from the tree.

The Thing I Cannot Stand Is The Fawning Over That Dipstick Who Owns Midway

What are you talking about?

I've never met any of the principals in Midway's business, but as a customer for many years I've never been anything but 100% statisified with their merchandise or their service. First rate operation in my experience.

:D Gun owners are never satisfied by anything are they. Put some shooting shows on TV and all they do is complain. :scrutiny:

As said above, MidwayUSA is one of the companies paying the bills and buying advertising. If Cheaper Than Dirt bought add space and sponsored the show, they would get some TV spots also.

Hasn't anyone ever told you that your hatred says more about you and less about the person you hate?

The old man is known in the shooting spots industry as one of the biggest jerks extant---hated by anyone who has to have business dealings with him.

Personally, I have no idea what type of people the folks running Midway truely are. I do know that I've had excellent service from them. But, as the saying goes, 'talk is cheap'. Proof please. (I'll bet it'll go something similar to Wal*Mart dealings.)

Yeah, it's a shame that the outdoor network only promotes products from the companies that advertise with them, but hey, business is business.

One company is putting money in your pocket, the other isn't. Which company are you more likely to help return the favor?

I personally like the shows. I can usually find something of interest. You just have to sift thru the BS, but that's pretty much with all TV.
As far as Larry Potterfield goes, I like the shorts he does on classic firearms and gunsmithing. They are sometimes more informative than the stories on the program! I'm thankful for the shows and I pay extra just for the channel. It's the highlight of my week.

No different than what fishing shows have been doing for years. It is just part of the game. Think about all of the product placement in TV and movies that you don't pick up consciously. At least when it's overt, you can make judgement for yourself.

I agree with those above who say that gun shows are good. Lots of varied gun shows are good. If you want different/better sponsors, vote with your wallet.

We need all the positive media coverage we can get. If that money comes from, well, ANY manufacturer that I don't buy from, so be it. IT KEEPS THE SHOWS ON THE AIR.

Are XDs and ARs REALLY so terrible?

I DVR them, then fast forward past the parts I'm not interested in and the commercials.

I can watch the entire Wed night "Home on the Range" lineup in about 30 minutes total.

I've heard the Potterfield guy is a tough competitor. Has bought or put a lot of "little guys" out of business, that helped consolidate his business too. But that's the American way, right?

Support your local gun shops and retailers where possible.

Wow BLKHawk73 I must of touched a nerve. When I see Jim going over new target holders (or whatever) other than of a new firearm introduction I cannot believe that is a wise choice. You consider Colt introducing a new pistol unimportant? Well I won't make that mistake.
