I have marked on the chamber of the barrel of a new production (early 2000s gun) Colt 1911(1991A1) gun "Colt .45 Auto Euro -" What does that mean exactly? Why the Euro marking?

Thanks
Chris

Some European countries don't allow their citizans to have military cartridges like 9mm and .45acp , so cartridges slightly different are used. I believe the case length is shorter just enough that a military cartridge will not fit, but the overall length is the same so they feed okay. You may have one that was supposed to go to Europe. Does a standard .45 ACP fit your chamber. Or it could be one with a short chamber that has been lengthened so it will feed standard .45acp.

In looking in the "Blue Book of Gun Values", 28th ed., there is a reference to to a "1991 series model O (MKIV Series 80)". This model is serialized consecutively with the last batch of Govt. models manfactured during 1945. Production of the Commander model of the 1991 series was from1993-2005, and re-introduced in 2007.
I see only the standard 9mm and 45ACP as offered cals. I could only speculate that the "euro" notation is in recognition of the pistols' similarities to the 1945 guns. You may want to have a good 'smith check it, but I haven't heard of any outlaw chamberings by Colt.
