1. How do I quote all or part of a post in a DIFFERENT thread?

2. How can I send someone the URL (if such exists) for just one post, not the whole thread?

Orthonym,

To quote from a post:

1) Highlight the section you want, right click, select 'copy.'
2) Take it to your reply screen, right click, select 'paste.'
3) Surround the cut & pasted text with {quote} and {/quote} using straight brackets [ ] instead of curly ones.

I usually open two windows if I'm moving from one thread to another, since it is easier that way.

To get the URL for one post in a thread: (There's probably a better way to do this, but here's my method.)

1) At the bottom of the individual post you want to URL, click 'search.' This will get you a list of all recent posts by that member.
2) Scroll down, if necessary, until you find the post in that list.
3) Making sure to click the lower of the two possible links, follow the link back to the post. (The upper link is a thread link, the lower one is a post link.)
4) Grab the URL out of the browser window when the post comes up.

Hope that made sense.

Or if you don't mind typing a little...

Take Pax's post for example. Move the cursor over "edit" and look at the url in the bottom of the browser window (IE seems to have dispensed with this feature; you'll have to find some other way to get the url - like copying it to the clipboard). Note the post ID.

Now simply copy the url in the url bar and append "#post<postid>"
so in the case of Pax's post it would be http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?threadid=31876#post387618

or you could also do
