I was talking to a friend on the phone last night. He was telling me about a revolver he got from his uncle when he died.

No pics yet, but from his description, there's only minor blueing wear around the edges and other than that, the gun, box and manual are in almost NIB condition.

Based on this info, can anyone make a ballpark guess on the value of this gun?

I realize that a picture would be helpful, but I don't have one yet. My friend's supposed to email me some pictures but that might take a few days knowing him.

Are you considering buying it from him? Condition is very important in estimating a value/price. Is this a commerative piece? If I had to throw a number out, I'd say $350ish if it is about a 98% gun.

+1 for .22-rimfire. Colt made many Frontier Scouts and they vary widely in price. This revolver seems like one of the fancier ones. The wood box and paperwork are a plus.

Thanks for the responses. I thought it'd be worth more than that. I figured since run of the mill Single Sixs sell for ~ $340, an old Colt would be worth more. I'm glad I asked. I haven't seen it yet and I don't think he's willing to part with it yet... w/o a little coaxing. :evil:

He has his own computer business and its up and down. If I can catch him at a down time when he needs money, I might be able to get it for less than that. He's a friend so I wouldn't try to screw him, but if I can get a reasonable deal on it, I'll try. If he sends me pics, I'l post them.

Wanted to add a few things. The price I mentioned probably seemed low. The serial number does not fit with anything I know for Frontier Scouts unless it is a commemorative model. Please check the serial number again. Factory pearl stocks were very uncommon. Some were shipped that way, special orders. The wood presentation boxes were used for about 10 years. I have paid as much as $650-700 for NIB Frontier Scouts. The barrel length is also important as there are some rare configurations. You can tell which series of Frontier Scout by the serial number prefix or suffix. Some of the regular factory offerings are quite collectable.

The more I think about it, the more I suspect it is a commemorative gun especially with the number you gave (3xx-GM). But, I looked at my references and it may have been something like a General John Hunt Morgan Indiana Raid or General Meade. My guess is General Meade. The commemoratives used the suffix that came with the name. I have a feeling it is commemorative gun which I don't pay much attention to. Pricing on commemoratives is gun specific. Often the current value is less than regular factory production in the collector market. Keep your chin up, it is probably worth a bit more than $350. I'm no expert on commemoratives.

If it does turn out to be a Colt commemorative collectors want them unfired in the box and not even turned. When you say there's only minor blueing wear around the edges it goes down to shooter value rather quickly. Would love to see a picture if you purchase.
