Brno is one of the big Czech gunmakers and did indeed produce military rifles. But when issued to the Czechoslavakian army, it was an 8mm. The actions are of good quality and have been used to make many sporting rifles in other calibers.

It might have some other background but there is no way to tell without pictures and a very full description.

Didn't the Czechs manufacture 7.65X53 rifles for Brazil which were later rechambered in 30/06?
If so I've read that the bores are oversize for the 06 and shoot best if handloaded with bullets made for the .303.

Also I think at least some of the rifles were rebarreled to 30/06 and/or manufactured new for that caliber and thus had the proper bore size.

My Brno action built in 1938 was rebarrelled by Century Arms in .30-06 SPRG. and sold here in Canada.
