Benelli Question

I purchased a used benelli M1 about 9 years ago. Since that time I have fired around 1,000. Since it was purchased used I have no idea how many rounds have cylced through it.

My question is, it will not cycle the second round into the chamber. Is there a spring that needs to be replaced? It seems that the new ones will almost take a finger off when it shuts and mine gently closes.

I have regularly cleaned the gun by removing the bolt and the trigger.

Please help.

You may need a new mainspring. You might want to look at a surecycle - they seem to last longer and my Benelli is much more reliable with a wider range of ammo since I installed one.

You may also just have to clean the action spring tube. You'd be amazed at the stuff that gets in there. I usually clean mine out about once a season.

PM me with an Email address and I'll send you the directions from Benelli on how to completely break it down.

Need a little more info. Does the second round come out of the magazine when the gun is fired? If so, where does it stop? Does the first shell eject when fired? If so, how far does the gun throw the empty shell? What shells are you using (weight, Dram Eq, etc)??? What is the chamber length of the M1 gun (3" or 3.5")???

Have you recently attached anything to the gun, such as a sidesaddle, light, etc.?

The first shell ejects when fired and I have not noticed how far it ejects. The second shell stops half way into the chamber.

I have been firing fiocchi golden pheasants 1 3/8 oz @ 14xx fps 2 3/4in 12 gauge

There are no accesories.

Thanks for all the help

If the second shell stops "halfway into the chamber" then something is definitely wrong with the spring that closes the bolt. I suggest you remove the mainspring and check it. Clean it and/or replace it if necessary.

The bolt should SLAM shut vigorously when chambering a new round.

EDIT: One other thing to check. You said that you regularly remove the bolt and trigger (assembly) to clean them. Just be sure that you reassembled them correctly. On some auto guns, it's possible to get the connecting rod (or link) turned upside down when reassembling. This would cause binding during the cycling of the bolt.

That's a straight up spring issue. Call Benelli and get a new one sent to you. Then when it gets to you, clean the gun, lube it up, put in the new spring... and there you go.

I recieved a new Wolff recoil spring today and was a little worried when it was a good 8 inches shorter than the one I took out. After installation it was like the day I bought it. The bolt slams shut and all is good in the world.

Thanks to all those that helped.
