I was looking through an online version of a CG art book called "Expose 5" when I came across this beauty. It is 100% computer generated.

I wish I knew who the artist was so I could credit this picture...

It looks like an artist's mark in the lower right.

Nice picture! (It needs a girl in it, though!) :)

Only problem with it is that a suppressor is completely worthless on a pistol without a threaded barrel :p

Aren't the Walther banner and the P99 on the wrong side? ;)

Very nice. (too bad they associate it with gambling, drinking and include the silencer (crime?) I'd like to see some clean-cut people using it for some wholesome competition or target practice.

I think the artist is associating it with James Bond, since vodka martinis, gambling and suppressed Walther pistols (particularly the P99 which has replaced the PPK) are all signature James Bond items.

Besides, "clean-cut" and "wholesome" people use suppressors, drink and gamble.

Your forgetting to mention that the picture is entitled "P99 007". And you should explain what is wrong with drinking and gambling. Do you associate suppressors with crime? I ask because you implied that you do.

I don't know Tecumseh, what else would you use suppressors for? But I missed the 007 label and as is my usual style let my typing get ahead of my brain.

Wow, that is pretty impressive for CG. Computer technology is evolving pretty fast these days. About the only thing that made me realize it wasn't real is the fact that the martini glass and it's contents seem a bit to perfectly clear and sharp in detail.

My sarcasm detector is broken today but I'd love to have a couple for more quiet shooting that does less damage to my hearing.

I'm quite familiar with Jean-Marc Labal's work, I started getting into CG art a few years ago and someone mentioned him to me earlier this year. All his work is very impressive you can check out his website here...

You'll also find this interesting if you want to know how the Walther image was made......
http://www.3dtotal.com/tutorials/walther_p99/

He used a program called Lightwave 3D to create the image, I have it but I'm still learning the program and I've been so busy these past few months with real work that I haven't dedicated much time to it. I was actually going to use the gun tutorial in the link above to create my own image by following his steps but I didn't get around to it yet.

That's it! I stared at the photo and something didn't look right. I checked my P99 and the markings are on the wrong side. Could the photo have been reversed?

The artist modeled it after a replica gun not a real one, its also not a photo its 100% computer generated, see the link I posted above. So its possible the replica gun he used had the markings on the wrong side, or its possible that the artist just didn't know.

Here's what the artist had to say about this image....
I wanted to re-create the gun as accurately as I could, so I started looking for information on the gun. I found a few useful images and pdf's on the Walther website. I also bought a authentic replica of the gun (BBgun) which was very helpful to understand the shape of the gun.

The same things they are usually recommended for: reducing noise pollution caused by shooting, and saving shooters' hearing. Some nations which regulate firearms heavily don't regulate suppressors because of these health benefits.

The implication that suppressors are only used in crime is absolutely false, demonstrates a lack of knowledge about the subject, and is about as logical as saying automobile mufflers are only used by criminals who want to make quieter escapes.
