Hey guys
I am limited in shotgunnery knowledge.....so what I am asking if someone could do a basic graphic representation of what the different chokes do to the patterning of the shot say against a 15 m target......like full, modified and I think it s called open(??)
any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have some old winchester drawings that illustrate it well but don't know how to post pictures. Do you have a garden hose ? The adjustment that gives a concentrated stream of water is like the full choke and the wide ,dispursed stream is like the cylinder choke. You pick the choke according to the type game and distance . Too dense a pattern will turn a bird into chopped meat , not dense enough will not kill the bird. For longer range , goose a full choke is used . For head shots on turkey extra full is used. For typical closer shots on grouse or dove a more open choke is used.

PS.
Rusher-
Though this doesnt work for everyone just shoot the shotgun and you will have a good idea on how it patterns when you see the clays blow up. Dave here has a good tread on blowing up clays somewere. If you hit them dead center the clay goes pooof. Nail it too high or too low and small peices of the clays fall apart. :)

Great Pic and good info !
Thanks for sharing.
IME I know the bbl or choke "says" its a whatever...the pattern board TELLS me what it is. No two are always the same, each have their own personality. Heck, Change lots of same load and one can get a different pattern. I have shot moving targets...like Brister wrote...things get a bit different. Shoot, pattern and know what that gun likes for what.
Of course I like patterening loads..."The roar of the gunpowder, the smell of the shot"
( a variation of a old old musical)-" The Roar of the Greasepaint -Smell of the Crowd") dated myself again huh :p
