I was wondering if you all could tell me what optics would be best on a 3006 for hunting and 100 yard paper target practice. I hope this politically correct message with punctuation does not offend any one. Thanks to all good replies.

Do you have a particular budget or price range in mind? I can't really recommend any specific models without some idea of how much you want to spend, but as a general recommendation I suggest you get a 3-9x40 variable power scope, which covers you nicely for just about any hunting or target shooting under 400 yards.

I agree with .41Dave, a 3-9x is all that you need.
I just found someone online selling new Nikon Prostaff 3-9's for 117.50...snatched it up as the next cheapest was 149.99.

That Prostaff is a great buy. Last weekend I got to compare it to the Bushnell Trophy I have on my Remington... the Nikon is 2 to 3 times brighter and images were crisp and sharp. Wish I had one.

I spent a whole whopping $249 on this Mossberg ATR 30-06 rifle $39 on the rock mount bipod and $69 on the Centerpoint 4-16x44mm IR Mil Dot scope at Wal-Mart and it will shoot sub moa. My first 20 rounds with it and half of the groups were sub moa.
