Hi. I came across this forum and hope someone can help me price this smith & wesson .38 SPL revolver. It is nickle finish (as opposed to blue...it's definitely not blue), distance from the base of the bullet chamber to the end of the barrel is 3 1/2", entire gun length is 6". Handle is steel core with wooden grips. Looks to me like a police issue. Serial number on the base of the handle is AYV2885. No scratches, nicks, dings, pretty shiny and smoothe.

I went in to a range today to shoot it and one of the instructors who works there showed interest in buying it off me...if i only had a clue how much it's worth.

I have pics that i can e-mail upon request.

thanx!

The prefix AYB thur AWW was used in July of 1987, so if I were to make a guess, I would say 1987. Open the cylinder, on the yoke is a model number. Also measure the barrel form the rear of the barrel , inside the frame, it should be 4 inches. Get back with the Model number and someone can help you. Right now your diiscription covers a number of different revolvers,:)
