I need some suggestions for a good compact scope for an M44.

I will be using S&K mounts.

Requirements:

1" tube
Fixed or variable, doesn't matter.
Max power doesn't need to be more than 7X. 4X is fine.
Compact per above.
Forgiving in terms of eye relief due to where it will be mounted.
Price - no more than $200. This is a Mosin, remember. :D
I like matte finishes, but I am not opposed to glossy.

I did a search on Midway, but just couldn't find anything that tickled me.

I have three scout rifles a 91/30 with 4x32 NcStar scope, M44 with a 2-7x32 NcStar scope and a Romy G AKM with a BSA 2x Scope. All three have good mounts the Mosin Nagants have Darrel mounts and my AK has a scout scope mount. I only had a problem with the 2-7 NcStar scope it crapped out after 50 rounds. I sent it back and they sent me a new one and its been fine. I have only tried low end scopes you should be able to find a nice one in your price range. I have a highly modified M44 "Scout" Rifle and it is a blast to shoot. Everytime I'm at the range a few strangers get to shoot it too! The muzzle break really makes it louder and the flash bellowing out both sides makes it look like a small howetzer! Scope is NcStar 2-7x32mm and mount is? but it works!

I use a Burris handgun 2-7x on an S&K scout mount on
a Mauser K98. Not only is the scope nice, but the LER
scout position compensates for my particular vision
problems: near sighted with the accompanying loss of
depth of field. When I told my optometrist I had some
problems shooting he was glad to hear I had the LER
option and enthusiastically recommended it.

jpwilley how do you keep that break on your M44. I have tried two styles of AK74 style breaks on my M44 i shot both of them off my rifle.
