Are any of the mariner shotguns actually stainless steel or are they just coated or nickel plated? Marinecoat?

Anyone know? They never specify a grade of stainless which leads me to believe they are just coated carbon steel.

thanks,
Dave

Nickel coated.

BTW, are you familiar with the search feature for THR?

The only stainless steel pump shotgun was the old Winchester Model 1200 Marine, and some early 1300 Marines.

Winchester discovered that even stainless steel would corrode, especially inside the bore, if not cleaned and lubed, so they changed to a satin nickel plate. Knowing of Winchester's problems with the stainless guns, Remington and Mossberg made their Marine guns in plated finishes.
