Gun Related Dog Names

November 29, 2007, 08:01 PM
I'm getting ready to look for a new dog, as mine is getting on in years, and was thinking I'd like to give him/her a gun related name.
What gun related name have you given to your pet(s)? :)

When I was growing up, we adopted a pair of sibling golden retrievers that came pre-named as Smith & Wesson. My brother has a dog named Ruger. I've known people with dogs named Bullet and Colt.

That said, Sam is the best name a dog can have.

hit or miss
November 29, 2007, 08:10 PM
Friend of mine had a black lab called Gunther after the powder.

November 29, 2007, 08:12 PM
Nobodys mentioned "Trigger" yet??

November 29, 2007, 08:17 PM

November 29, 2007, 08:18 PM
Cool, keep em comin'

I was thinking about "Magnum"

November 29, 2007, 08:41 PM
Mine's named Remington. We call him Remmy, or Rem for short.

November 29, 2007, 09:02 PM
mine is "Powell's Rapid Reload" - call name, "Gauge"

What kind of dog are you going to get? I think that matters when naming as well...Or at least what size.:)

I kind of like the name Mosin(except pronounce it mow-sin)

November 29, 2007, 09:16 PM
I have a miniature pincher named Barret:D He thinks he is as big as my Doberman named Max.....haha

November 29, 2007, 09:18 PM
I got my german short haired pointer from a couple that went a little pet and bird dog crazy when they had a toddler and an infant. Really nice couple that was a little overwhelmed by all the animals (3 dogs, 6 cats and several large birds, IIRC) and kids in a bungalow.

Their weimeramer (sp?) was named "Parker" and his best buddy (now our family pet:banghead:) is named "Hale". Really nice dog, just a knucklehead who runs, and runs and runs, and runs, everywhere......

Johnny B
November 29, 2007, 09:18 PM
My cousins had a beagle when I was young named Shotgun. Kind of an awkward name, but whatever.

Texas Colt
November 29, 2007, 09:22 PM
When I was a kid, I had a beagle named Bullet. Now I have a lab-retriever mix named Sam, after Sam Colt. I have another black lab-mix named Hank, after the series of children's' books titled "Hank the Cowdog, Head of Ranch Security" .

I few months ago, I brought home a stray yellow lab. I named him Ranger. After a trip to the vet, we found out he had a real bad case of heart worms and had to be put down. :(

November 29, 2007, 09:25 PM
I had a catahoula named "Magnum". I think it's one of the best gun names.

Jelly (jelly bryce, gun fighter)
Talon (black talon)
Bess (Brown Bess--British musket)

November 29, 2007, 09:35 PM
Im with bazookajoe I want to name a dog mosin also. I think it needs to be a boy dog though. Maybe a schnauser named mauser, sorry if i spell schnauser wrong. :D

Black Knight
November 29, 2007, 09:40 PM
That is the name of my step-son's cat.

Another good name is Winchester.

Bazooka Joe71
November 29, 2007, 09:42 PM
I really like the name stoner too, but unless your neighbors are gun enthusiests they may give you weird looks.:)

Hoppes would be a good name...People could also think you just really like beer too. :D

November 29, 2007, 09:43 PM
I like the name "shooter" myself

Or how about Barrett?

You didn't say what kind of dog you're thinking of getting, the breed of dog could help us give you the appropriate name.

November 29, 2007, 09:43 PM
A buddy of mine in 2/68 Armor when I was stationed in Germany had a German Shepard named "Panzer".

November 29, 2007, 09:47 PM
I am morally against it.

A dog named Bullet almost killed Stephen King. It was distracting the idiot driving the van. The same idiot had another dog named pistol.

Anything that nearly kills the greatest author of all time is automatically on my black-list!

November 29, 2007, 09:48 PM
How about....Gunner

November 29, 2007, 09:54 PM
I had a dog named Marlin once. My nephew had Buckshot, a springer spaniel.

November 29, 2007, 09:54 PM
How about Powdermonkey?

November 29, 2007, 09:57 PM
my dad had a german shorthaired pointer named winchester

November 29, 2007, 09:57 PM
Another vote for Ruger. Or maybe Browning (after the Prophet).

November 29, 2007, 09:59 PM
My granddad used to call us kids buckshot when we were little...Also, Frizzen might be fun if you're into BP...

November 29, 2007, 10:05 PM
Yeah, "Trigger" is kind of obvious and overused, but it's still cool. That's what I would go with.

Red Dragon
November 29, 2007, 10:14 PM
I have a bulldog named Ruger, so I guess that's another vote for that one.

November 29, 2007, 10:14 PM
We have fun with our pet names over here. To date:

Chuck Norris: Black Lab / pit bull mutt.
Chewbacca: Cat
Harrison (Ford): Chewbacca's brother.

If'n we ever spawn human male twins I've been given the green light to name them Smith and Wesson.

I've always though Arisaka would make a good dog name.

November 29, 2007, 10:14 PM
My favorite would be Boomer. Although it could be confused with a submarine....

November 29, 2007, 10:33 PM
Our dog that died of old age 10 years ago was named v-max ,not for Hornadys bullet but because he was a nutty can't-sit-still Visla...i really miss that crazy dog

November 29, 2007, 11:05 PM
Another good name is Winchester.

Or, if you don't want three syllables, you could just use CHESTER.

November 29, 2007, 11:56 PM
I got a Lab mix recently, he's about 14 weeks old now. I named him Sig.

November 29, 2007, 11:57 PM
buckshot! my old cats name- the female he bred was bullet and they spawned bee bee.

November 30, 2007, 12:02 AM
Ever pooch I have had for a long time has a name but will also answer to "dog" or "Dogs" cause there is usually more than one out there.

November 30, 2007, 12:07 AM
name him Sigmund, and call him Sig for short.

November 30, 2007, 12:10 AM
I had a dog when I was in highschool named Jesse....for Jesse James

"Magnum". I think it's one of the best gun names.
If it was female would call her "Magie"?

November 30, 2007, 12:22 AM
I have a dog named ammo. It is a registered german shepard so it whole name is "Pass The AMMO". I have a cat named gunpowder.

Gary Frost
November 30, 2007, 12:24 AM
female boxer named Kimber

November 30, 2007, 12:28 AM
One named bullet. One named Remington. And best of all "Chopper". A black Chow.

Biten'est SOB you ever seen. That dog would bite the Pope. He just didn't care.

Also the best rat hunter.

Have you heard the song with the line, If i die before i wake. Feed Jake?

Well i changed it to, If i die before its proper, feed Chopper.

I really miss that dog.

November 30, 2007, 01:56 AM
my friends brother's dog is named Ruger, they also have a rabbit named Smith, and another named Wesson.

I like Remington or Remmy, Winchester is cool as well.

How about hornady?

November 30, 2007, 02:08 AM
Rubin. When a dog plays tug of way you can say you have a "straight pull Rubin".

November 30, 2007, 02:16 AM
My black lab is named Bullet.

Jorg Nysgerrig
November 30, 2007, 02:22 AM
How about hornady?

I would pass on that name. You'll inevitably refer to him as Horny. Sure, yelling, "Here, Horny! C'mere Horny!", saying "Yes, who's my good Horny boy. That's right", and informing the vet, "My dog is Horny" might be fun for awhile, but at some point, you're going to slip up and have to explain it.

November 30, 2007, 02:23 AM
it got shortened to remmy of course.
the last doggie friend was a rat terrier/chiuaha mix named Spartan but he answers to sparky....not really gun related but kind of "molon labe" related

November 30, 2007, 02:25 AM
i named my german shepard sako after my m39 i wanted to name it sturmgewehr but i figured that would get old after a while.

November 30, 2007, 02:41 AM
Thats Colt on the left and Ruger the one eyed bandit on the right.
That Remington or Remmy/Rem for short.

Sorry the pics are so big, I dont know how to shrink them.

November 30, 2007, 02:56 AM
I like Enfield, Sounds good for a retriever.

or you could go with:

Buttstock (good name for a stupid dog)
Carbine (smaller dog)
IMBEL (if you are into FALs)
Mannlicher (especially fitting on a mutt that won't stop licking you)
Springfield (sounds good for a spaniel)
Tokerev (Tokerev and Makerov if you have a pair of dogs)
Walther (sounds good for a basset hound)

November 30, 2007, 03:07 AM
I have a golden Drakeshead called Purdey.

November 30, 2007, 05:42 AM
Once I knew a Mall Ninja with two dogs, "Deagle" and "Operator"

November 30, 2007, 06:18 AM
How about nato?

November 30, 2007, 06:52 AM
You could check dogster and see how many dogs have the name. We looked for something different. benelli is a good choice for a hunter. Patton or willie, Just a few thoughts. Patrick Marley was a black lab named after bob, JC is the new lab, after johnny cash, the pup in black.

November 30, 2007, 07:58 AM
I name my pets after mountains and mountain trails. Lots of boys names, not many girls, but they are there if you look hard enough.

I'll vote for bullet for a male dogs name when it comes to guns. Annie Oakley for females, or Norma.

November 30, 2007, 08:01 AM
How about "Goober" or "Git"?:scrutiny:

November 30, 2007, 09:48 AM
This is Mikhail Kalishnikov E***. Seriously, my wife named the little furball for her AK, and he is now the biggest cat we have.
The new dog is Skip, but I should have called him Bob.....for Bob Barker.

Mr White
November 30, 2007, 10:27 AM
My German Shepherd was already named when we got her or I would have named her Mauser or Schmeiser. MG42 would have sounded kind of wierd.

I wanted to name my other dog Snots, in honor of Randy Quaid's dog in Christmas Vacation but the Head of the Naming Committee/CFO/CEO/COO wouldn't go for it.

November 30, 2007, 10:30 AM
English bulldog .... Winchester

November 30, 2007, 10:55 AM
I got this one from some of the goofballs at the rifle range, so I guess it counts as "gun-related". It's a true classic from the late 70's as well.

*****HEAD !!!

November 30, 2007, 11:34 AM
Powder monkey gets my vote or Leonidus (sp?) Leo for short...

November 30, 2007, 11:47 AM
Wasn't Roy Roger's dog's name Bullet? Horse - Trigger?

November 30, 2007, 12:05 PM
How about Ceska Zbrojovka ;)
Mossberg (Mossy for short)
Chauchat- for a French Poodle :neener:
Browning- for a Choc. Lab, or just a brown dog.

November 30, 2007, 12:50 PM
Chester, easier to say than winchester. A hound dog

November 30, 2007, 12:55 PM
My dog's name is Ryder. Short for Red Ryder like the old daisy BB gun.
A friend had 2 cats Ruger and Remington.

November 30, 2007, 01:03 PM
Squib or Hangfire - for those dysfunctional doggies.

November 30, 2007, 01:05 PM
...baying this small baby fox in the back yard. The fox was not impressed with all of the barking :neener:

November 30, 2007, 01:21 PM
Chamber

November 30, 2007, 02:16 PM
My granddad used to call us kids buckshot when we were little

My Grandfather called me buckshot and my younger brother fineshot. I'd name a couple of dogs that if I had a large one and a small one.

November 30, 2007, 02:48 PM
How about...

Otto Maddock ?

November 30, 2007, 02:57 PM
"Operator" haha

How about M1911A1 or Ruger 10/22, haha!

November 30, 2007, 04:02 PM
Our Australian Shepard/Collie mix is "Browning Hi Power" but is called "Brownie."

The cat is "Walther PPK" (valtuh peh peh kah) and called simply Walther. He thinks he's a pistol

November 30, 2007, 05:45 PM
Thanks for all the replys. This has turned into a great thread!
I haven't been on all day because of work, but I'd like to get a
German Shepherd or a mix Shepherd. What i need in a dog besides
being my friend is one that is a good alarm when someone is lurking about
that shouldn't be there.

November 30, 2007, 06:08 PM
I recall a B-24 squadron in World War 2 had a dog mascot named Tracer. Always thought that was a cool name for a dog.

Fred Fuller
November 30, 2007, 06:44 PM
My Brittany's name is Spotter (she points, I shoot, she retrieves).

November 30, 2007, 07:50 PM
Yeah, I was gonna suggest Squib as well. Probably have to be neutered, though.

November 30, 2007, 07:57 PM
Okay, a couple I have used

1. Leupold
3. Rusty (after my dad's old .22)

November 30, 2007, 08:00 PM
Had a black lab 20 years ago named Captain Ruger Blackhawk. Called him Ruger for short. Current black lab is Tenth Black King. King for short.

November 30, 2007, 08:02 PM
Best dog name i've ever heard was in, DAMMIT, get out of the garbage...if not, i vote for shooter.

Baba Louie
November 30, 2007, 08:09 PM
Horace or Daniel
Eliaph (Eli)

Wild Deuce
November 30, 2007, 08:13 PM
Official registered name of our dog is "Mil-Spec" ... call her "Millie"

November 30, 2007, 08:19 PM
Our two pitty mixes are named Jimmy (Col. James B. Beam) and Rose (give my love to Rose, J. Cash) respectively.

For gun related names, I would recommend Maggie for a female dog (magnum) and "johnny" or some derivative for a male (john moses browning, dontcha know).

November 30, 2007, 08:21 PM
I couldn't resist a three syllable name... Ricochet.

November 30, 2007, 09:04 PM
Well, not exactly gun related, but I had a great German Shepherd named LT, short for Lieutenant, and currently own another Shepherd named Gunny-

November 30, 2007, 09:26 PM
Widdle & Puke

Oh... gun-related names....

November 30, 2007, 11:17 PM
Thanks for all the replys. This has turned into a great thread!
I haven't been on all day because of work, but I'd like to get a
German Shepherd or a mix Shepherd.

In that case I say Luger, Mauser or Walther

rust collector
November 30, 2007, 11:47 PM
My alaskan husky would have to be named Husqvarna.

Kel-tec has kind of a nice sound for a dog that is small but mighty.

Lothar or Lilja would be good for a barrel-chested lab.

And of course Arf 15 for a black lab

If you needed a specific mauser for your schnauzer, you could call him Bolo.

But I'm thinking Dillon Aero might be best for a registered dog.

And Brno if it was necessary to use a czech line to keep him in close.

December 1, 2007, 12:01 AM
Bullet, scooter, copper.

December 1, 2007, 12:12 AM
I guess, besides my two earlier submissions, I should mention my real dog's name is Brillo (silky-haired Jack Russell) and I have a hyper-goofy Manx cat named Banzai...

December 1, 2007, 12:18 AM
And Brno if it was necessary to use a czech line to keep him in close. lol

how about Sharp Shooter, Nosler, Dakota, Dragoon, Savage, or Breakfree.

December 1, 2007, 12:31 AM
My yellow lab golden hunting bow (Bow)

His father was named Roudy Ruger Remington

His mothers name was Elly Benelli May

December 1, 2007, 01:12 AM
You could get a blue heeler puppy and name him bluedot. :-)

December 1, 2007, 01:22 AM
I have a ****zu named Brady.Thats gun related :D

December 1, 2007, 01:25 AM
dang ****ing auto mod edits out a dogs breed (****zu):cuss:

December 1, 2007, 01:29 AM
okay Shih Tzu if you want to be picky. Poor Brady is getting shots taken at him from the edit mods.

December 1, 2007, 01:32 AM
If you name your dog Magnum people will think you're a big fan of 80's TV. Actually it would be a good fit for the Hawaiian shirts everyone seems to like for CCW.

Not sure if some has suggested them or not:
-Moses or Brownie after JMB.
-A.C.P. which I would shorten to CP in use
-Lightening after the old Colt
-BreakFree (good one for a beagle or setter)
-Red Dot (for an Irish Setter)
-FMJ (Jay for short)

December 1, 2007, 02:08 AM
has anyone mentioned 'bella' or 'bellum' yet? Not directly gun related but if my latin's not too rusty, it means 'war'.

December 1, 2007, 09:10 AM
I have a cat named "Mauzer" does that count?

And before you scoff, he's 25 lbs and will beat the poop out of any little "yapper" dog ;)

December 1, 2007, 09:17 AM
SPIKE..... it is by far the best dog name in the world... or maybe D-O-G... say out each letter fast.. i kind of like that one..

December 1, 2007, 09:35 AM
We just adopted a 3 legged black lab puppy that we named Tri-pod

December 1, 2007, 09:46 AM

This is Schwarzkopf. He is a Boxer/Shepard mix.

December 1, 2007, 10:50 AM
I don't currently have one with a gun-related name, but my neighbor named his black lab Ruger also.

December 1, 2007, 02:45 PM
1. there was a litter of anatolians that went with the gun theme. (i only met ruger though)
2. he's not named for hornady, but my boss has a hound dog thats name IS horny dog (and yes, its because he was a horny dog 'till she had him nutered)
3. my lab mix, southwest, answers to *****head.

my vote would be for one of the odder names. i work in a kennel. Ruger, Bullet, Chester and all the other names that EVERYONE uses gets old quick!
we had a black dog board and his name was Blackie. *rolling eyes* why couldn't these people think up a NAME for there dog.
my vote:
.45 ACP (maybe auto for short?)

and dad always said if he got two rotties he'd name them Hecklern and Koch (pronounce it correctly guys!)

rust collector
December 1, 2007, 05:16 PM
Dad had a dog named Nitro. Gunslick, Blue Wonder, Dewey or Otis might also be fun spins on cleaning products.

Then there's Cordite or SMLE (Smelly) from the UK, Nobel or Carl Gustav or Bofors from Sweden, Lahti or Suomi for a Finnish twist.

Tula, Ishevsk or Izmash are Russian manufacturers. Stechkin & Margolin are lesser known designs.

You could call her Ackley, and after obedience training she would be Ackley Improved. Also Townsend, Whelen, Jordan, Oakley, Bogardus and Topper (after Ad Topperwein, legendary trick shooter).

The possibilities are endless.

December 1, 2007, 11:25 PM
I have a all black Blue Healer, Astrialian shepard mix named "Wyatt"

December 2, 2007, 11:43 AM
Pipper or Pip for short
Xring for the dog you don't like

fast eddie
December 2, 2007, 01:25 PM
How 'bout Target.:D

December 2, 2007, 05:18 PM
My wife raises Labradors. About 12 years ago a friend bought two black males to train for field trials. He named them Smith and Wesson.

December 2, 2007, 05:24 PM
My English Setter bitch is Daisy

December 2, 2007, 06:50 PM
We have two dogs named Mosin and Mauser. That joke was circulating 7 years ago that went - "you know you're a gun nut if name your kids...."
Around the same time, the kids found a litter of abandoned puppies on their way to school. We adopted two, and when the wife asked me what to name them, I humorously answered "Mauser and Mosin". (I collect Milsurps.) She thought it was cute, and it stuck. Here are Mauser and Mosin, left to right. They're acquiring target lock on the neighbor's cat.

daniel (australia)
December 2, 2007, 10:21 PM
We have two Brittannies: Purdey and Rigby:)

December 3, 2007, 01:07 PM
I'm surprised I only saw this name once in this thread: Mossberg. A friend of a friend has a dog names Mossberg.:D

Bazooka Joe71
December 3, 2007, 01:36 PM
Hey Mike, whenever you are calling for Mosin, how do you pronounce it?

BTW I love that name for a dog. If got Zeus(my German Shepherd) a couple of years later, his name would be Mosin.

December 3, 2007, 08:40 PM
How about a Schnauzer named Mauser?

December 3, 2007, 09:03 PM
My dog L.C. (Smith) passed away about a year ago. One of my cats is Marlin.

The other three pets are alcohol named. Haven't gotten around to tobacco yet.

December 3, 2007, 09:05 PM
If I ever get another dog(I'm partial to chocolate labs), I'll entertain naming him or her Stoeger or Caliber.
Lady Smith would be ideal for a cat with an attitude.

December 4, 2007, 09:14 PM
Okay, scanned thru all five pages quickly so if I missed it, oh well-
My malamute/wolf mix is named Dakota Jack
He prefers Dakota, but he's getting old and set in his ways...

December 4, 2007, 11:33 PM
How about, "Sabot" or "Birdshot"

December 4, 2007, 11:45 PM
No matter what you start with, if he turns out to be on the dumb...change his name to "lead head".

December 5, 2007, 12:13 AM

December 5, 2007, 12:15 AM

December 5, 2007, 12:32 AM
Hey Mike, whenever you are calling for Mosin, how do you pronounce it?

BTW I love that name for a dog. If got Zeus(my German Shepherd) a couple of years later, his name would be Mosin.

I say Moz-in but it should be Mo-seen. See:

December 5, 2007, 12:55 AM
Barb as the patron saint of firearms, gunners and gunsmiths, Saint Barbera.
Keep the name short, easier on you and the dog. Glock, CZ, HK, Colt would work. Avoid S names. They confuse the dog in training as stop, stay etc.
Combat Masterpiece would get old.

December 5, 2007, 01:54 AM
All cats around my place are named "Target"

December 5, 2007, 09:53 AM
"Hiram" or "Maxim"

Maybe "Gat" or "Gatling"

or just "Buttstock" if the dog is a butthead.

December 5, 2007, 09:56 AM
