Spyderco Matriarch

Two freakin' thumbs up on this baby! This knife is MADE for cutting flesh deep and nasty. And it will. Blade is a "reverse S" and looks plain wicked. That's because it is. It will cut at the slightest touch and will not stop cutting as long as blade is contacting. Light in the pocket, feels great in the hand. Quality, fit and finish are great. Lock up is tight and solid. Lock action is smooth. Blade is just absolutely beautiful. And, yes, I do have a Civilian on the way. This is one of those blades that the average goblin just has to SEE in your hand to immediately forget about you and move on at a high rate of speed. I have read an account of the use of a Matriarch by a cop over on PhilElmore.com and the results were pretty gruesome.

Actually, the article appeared in The Martialist here (http://www.themartialist.com/0503/matriarch.htm) and was written by our Associate Editor, Lawrence Keeney. Lawrence's work has figured prominently in KnifeForums Magazine.

hmmm...wonder if this hooked blade feature makes the knife any more lawyer-proof?
something like: "...counselor, this knife is useful for cutting rope or webbing. In a fight it will make a nasty cut but is unlikely to kill, because it can't be used for stabbing..."
Seems to me this would be true of the Karambits, La Griffes or any other knife with a similar hooked blade.

Sorry, T-cal, but the knives are less lawyer proof since they are purpose built as selfdefense weapons and not as "tools".

Not only are they purpose built as HSO stated, they are very capable of stabbing someone, though not very deeply, the tip leads in a stabbing/insertion mode initially.
Slashings with the Karambit or Matriarch designed blades produces the point/tip inserting itself [ stabbing ] first, then the tip leads the slash as you follow through to the end of the slash.
