Optimum length for .300 tactical barrel ????

Have a .300 WSM with a 26 inch barrel that just wants to be shortened. At the time could only get the 26", it really is too long. Are there any disadvantages to shortening an otherwise good tactical barrel. 300 WSM already goes fast enough so any loss in velocity will niot be missed.

Optimum for velocity, seems to me, is what you already have. Optimum for ease of handling? Well, shorter is better, but I wouldn't want to be in the same county if you cut back to 16".

Seems to me that what you're looking for is a good compromise between velocity and handling. I'd guess that maybeso 22" oughta work okay...
