My father-inlaw gave me a Winchester model 12 16GA SN# 1013XX. It is chambered for a shorter shell than today's standard 2 3/4 I know that the gun is rather old however it looks new. Does anyone have any information as to the age and value of this shotgun. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Made in 1915.
I would imagine a Winchester collector would love to buy it.

Value for one that early, in the condition indicated in the picture, would probably be well over $800.00 if you can find the right buyer.

But the 16ga is not going to bring as much as it would if it were a 12ga.

Should you wish to keep it and shoot it, Simmons in Olatha Ks will convert your gun to handle 2 3/4" shells for $250.00. They have been doing it since WWII, so they ought to know how to do it pretty well by now!

Thanks rcmodel, I've seen other model 12's made in the '40s go for as much as $800 but they are chambered for the 2 3/4 shells. I know this one is in excellent condition but I wasn't sure if the short shell would hurt the value of this gun or if the condition would make up for it.
