Gov. Davis Admits He's Consulting Clinton

A vote to recall him would be a vote to abandon the Democrat party's most cherished ideals such as support for abortion and gun control warned California's ultra-left wing Gov. Gray Davis, oddly described by the liberal Los Angeles Times as "a longtime political centrist."

During a rally featuring such liberal Democrat stalwarts as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Democrat party chairman Terry McAuliffe, both of whom had hastened to California as part of the Democrat's frantic effort to keep the extremely unpopular governor in office, Davis raised the specter of a GOP assault on such sacred cows as abortion, gun control, gay rights, public schools, and preserving the California coastline, the Times reported today.

"This is not simply about me," he told the crowd of 250 supporters. "This is about all Californians who believe in a progressive agenda."

The most recent Times Poll discovered that that one in three Democrats would vote to toss Davis out of office so Davis' most immediate problem will be winning back all those unhappy Democrats. The Times reports that in the past 10 days he has begged for the support of Latinos, African Americans and Asians which the Times described as "core Democratic constituencies."

He has lashed out at Republican lawmakers who the Times claims have proposed billions of dollars in cuts to public schools and health care etc, rather than raising taxes, Davis's remedy for meeting the state's $38 billion budget shortfall and everything else.

"The Republicans' intransigence has taken us to the brink of disaster," he charged on one Los Angeles radio show according to the Times.

Jumping Aboard

Jumping aboard the creaky Davis bandwagon McAuliffe said "Once again, the Republicans are trying to steal an election from the Democrats," adding his now obsessive delusion that "Al Gore won the state of Florida," while noting that "Gray Davis won as governor in the state of California."

Democratic strategist Bill Carrick told the Times that if Davis keeps Democrats out of the race to replace him, support for the recall is apt to decline among Democratic voters, but "that doesn't mean he doesn't have to go out there and really hustle to get them jazzed up."

"This is going to be an election that's going to be decided by who gets their vote out," he predicted.

Some strategists question Davis' prospects for keeping his job when polls show nearly seven in 10 voters are dissatisfied with his performance.

"He's going right back to his base supporters, but that's not enough to win - and he can't put together enough of those people to overcome the recall," Republican analyst Tony Quinn told the Times. "The recall is much more a revolt against the political class, of which Davis is the personification.

In an interview with the Times, Davis admitted he had even sought advice from disgraced former President Clinton.

"I have frequently sought his advice and counsel and am grateful for the suggestions he's made to me over the course of the past two weeks," Davis revealed.

There are some who have opined that Bill would be a perfect fit for the governship of California.

And these are serious people.

Gray Davis needs to go. If not for his incompetent handling of our engineered energy crisis but for he reneging on the promise of no more gun laws. Of course, who trusts politicians?
