Hit Taurus' website the other night to see what's new and couldn't seem to pull up any Gauchos. Have these been discontinued or is this just a website glitch / update in progress? I bought one a few years ago to use as a chores bummin' beater and I continue to be surprised by it's feel, rugged reliability and yes, decent accuracy. Considered getting a second in a different caliber for a truck / barn but, but may not if they've been dc'ed.

Any input appreciated.

Instead of searching for internet rumor, call Taurus first thing in the morning (er, after they open) and ask them directly.

They're selling to the cowboy world like hotcakes. I seriously doubt they'd discontinue this one.

The gun that amazes me is the "Judge". I even heard a guy in Bass Pro telling his bud about it. It's all the rage and for the life of me, I can't figure out what the thing is good for other than home defense for the blind. "Shooting snakes?" Hell, how many snakes to you have to shoot and why can't you hit one with a .22, or maybe, a hoe? :rolleyes: But, that's another thread. The gun is making Taurus huge amounts of money. That's why they're building it I suppose. Of all the Tauri, I can't see 'em dropping the Gaucho, the PT1911, or the Judge. Those three are selling in huge numbers.

Here's what I know.
The Gaucho revolvers have/had a LOT of trouble. This is not bashing, this is not hearsay, this is me having trouble with THREE of them and a good friend having trouble with TWO MORE.

The Cowboy Action Shooters that I know (being one myself) have a pretty low opinion of the guns with a distressing number of stories about "trigger slap" and light primer strikes.

If I were to hazard a guess I'd say that, at minimum, Taurus is going to do a re-engineering (at least that's what they'll do if they are smart).

This all makes me very sad, I love the ergonomics, the smooth feel, and how solid my Gauchos felt...but it was an illusion in my case and they just didn't hold up.

If you look under their "large frame" revolvers you'll find several versions of the Gaucho listed as available.

I have heard they had some troubles with it. Personally, I never was in the market for one. I'm a Blackhawk kinda guy when it comes to single actions. I don't play games with 'em, use 'em for hunting and such. The Blackhawk has adjustable sights and can handle amazingly powerful handloads that would crater the Colt clones.

AFAIK they are being discontinued. My regular dealer has them in his cabinet for $100 less than they were a few months ago and told me Taurus is closing them out. He bought as many as he could and last I was there had almost all of the different models.

He does ship and is one of the cheapest going even when compared to most Internet prices, so let me know if you want his contact info.

Doesn't mean they aren't coming out with a new model though.

I had one and liked it a lot but sold it to go with matched sets of Vaqero's and Blackhawks for CAS. Some people have complained about them but mine was rock solid and smooth as silk.

They are still being produced. Just don't buy one and you will be fine.

I've seen them being greatly clearanced out by CDNN and distributors. This usually occurs when the remaining stock is sold off prior to discontinuation. The Taurus line overall has had many issues with quality control. Thier Lightning replicas have had extensive issues. I've yet to see any CASS shooters up here using them but do hear about thier issues. Doesn't take long for quality issues to become known and cause slaes to slump. Also didn't help jumping into the cowboy arena with it already being a heavily competitive one. Again, their QC issues hurt them again.
I really do believe theGaucho is going the way of the dodo.

I'm far from a Taurus "defender" but in fairness, no one has been able to get a Lightning running as reliably as a good lever gun. (or even close really)

But with that said, Taurus probably took the crown for making the worst Lighting replica.

FWIW, I don't see Beretta being in the game much longer either (aside from owning Uberti). They have also been discounting their CAS guns.

Beretta simply has thier prices too high for what they are (spiffy Ubertis). FWIW, The Taylor's made and yes, even the beretta Lightning replicas are ncie smoth working firearms. Plenty speedy enough for CAS work in the right hands.

That sucks about the lightning, I was thinking about getting one of those someday and I hadn't heard that they had so many problems.

I don't see the attraction for the Judge either. Their ad's show tight groups with 45's & shot yet every magazine I read has them sprayin like a hose. Said to be the compromise on rifling the bore. Do have to say pushing little 410's into a revolver would be neat but...

Some folks tell me they want one based off the photo that shows two silhouette targets, one with the .45 rounds and the other with the .410 holes. I tell them the "massive" .410 holes are from the plastic wads hitting the paper and in real life "your mileage may vary.":D
