Those are good guns. My first BP rifle was a Cabelas 54 cal. I stripped and refinished it for better fit. Killed an Elk with it using a Lee improved mini and 90 grains of 2f.

I bought one of the Hawken kits in 45 cal after the 54. I paid $129.00 for it. That 45 is my favorite BP gun to this day. It has the most amazing wood grain for s cheap rifle you have ever seen. It has light and dark bands and the light bands look like they are under a quarter inch of polyurethane.

My BP shooting buddy saw it and ordered one. His has the plainest, most bland wood imaginable. I've seen Balsa wood with better grain. They are strong though. He loaded his and forgot to take out the ramrod. It kicked and bruised his cheek and knocked his glasses off. He did hit right above the bullseye at 50 yards with the rammer. It shattered when it hit but we found the ends and made a new rod that night.

While running around the country (over the road truck driver) I ALWAYS stop at all the Cabelas and milsurp dealers, I've noticed that Cabellas runs these specials only at the stores as a grand opening special that isn't shared with the other outlets...
