Hello all,
I just picked up a new kahr mk40 this weekend, and today was the 1st time I got to shoot it. Great little gun! It may be alittle heavy to some, but felt good to me. It is accurate for a compact gun in .40. I had 2 problems with it at the range, a few times when it fed the last round into the chamber, the slide did not fully engage foward. I had to tap foward a little bit. This could have been my fault, I was a little worn out from work and may have limpwristed alittle. The next problem was on round number 237, one of the little screws that holds on the grips fell out, I got a screwdriver and put it back in, check the other 3 screws and they were very loose. Has anyone else had any of these problems before on their kahr? These cost a good amount of money, I didn't expect screws to be falling out! Anyways all in all I like this gun, I bought it for a carry gun, and if I confirm that it was limpwristing and not the gun, I think I found my carry gun.

I have a K40 a bought a few months back, it has been 100% so far. You may have been limpwristing or the pistol just wasn't broken in. You could also try polishing the feed ramp, something I do to all my pistols.

The grip screws could have been loose from the factory. I took my K40 to the range today and I just checked my grip screws and they're tight.

I carry my K40 in a Comp-Tac holster, and I was very surprised how comfortable this set-up is.

I had a P40 and I occaisionally have problems with it chambering the last round. I can run a full mag through perfectly until the last round and every time (at first) it would do what you were describing. I'd tap it and it'd be fine. I've only got a little more then 100 rounds through it so far and it was really bad for the first 25 or 50 rounds but the 2nd group of 50 it would do it maybe 25% of the time on the last round. There at first it done it EVERY TIME. I could load a mag a 2 rounds and first one is fine, 2nd would do this. I'm hoping when I get a chance to put 100 more rounds through it (got a 100 rnd box at home) I can eliminate the problem.

I'm not sure if I'm shooting limp wristed or not. I always forget to pay attention to that when it happens. It may be coincidence, but when I'd shoot rapidly, as in running through a mag in 10 seconds, it didn't happen at all.

I didn't have any problems with screws or anything else though, and I absolutely love the gun. I got my carry permit this week and I often forget I have it because it's so slim.

NJ3, what does polishing the feed ramp consist of, exactly? I mean what do you use to polish it, etc. I'd hate to damage a $550 because of my ignorance.

With the MK40 you are working with very few threads and you don't want to over-tighten. I had the same thing happen and replaced them with blue loctite on them. Blue, as in semi-permanent, not red permanent or even worse non-servicable loctite. A little dab will do you.

Thanks for the info, I'm going today to put some more rounds through it, and see if it gets better. I thought about loctite, just have to make sure I get the right one.;)
Thanks

I used to have an MK40 and the first time out shooting it, one of the grip screws fell out into my hand. It was lucky that I caught it before it fell (I was shooting outside in high grass and probably never would've found it).

It was a great little gun. I never had any problems with it. Just had to make sure to tighten all the grip screws when shooting more than a box or two of ammo.

Here is one link I found on polishing feed ramps.

Kahr tech support will help you out too. I broke a part on my PM9 and I called them and told them I broke it. I had a free replacement part in no time.

Well I put another 100 rounds through at the range today, all the screws are still tight, and not one problem with the slide going all the way foward!

Heck, I have to tighten the grip screws all the time on my .40 BHP. The recoil shakes em loose. No biggie as I have a Leatherman with me all the time.

Now that you`ve gotten the gun straightened out, how`s the recoil? My MK9 is very manageable but I was thinking of getting a .40.

Thanks NJ3 for the info!

And dinosaur, the recoil isn't as bad on my P40 as people have said. Before I got it I was almost scared to shoot it after hearing about how aweful it was. My main gun before it was a Taurus PT-92 AFS. Which, with that thing weighing 4-5lbs (guessing) and just shooting 9mm, it had almost no recoil. The P40, IMO is very managable recoil. Only problem I have is that after about 50-75 rounds the skin between my thumb and index finger sometimes gets red and kinda sore, but I forget about it after a few minutes.

Then again I'm 6' tall and 250lbs, so it's not going to knock me down. I think the recoil might be bad enough to keep the gun from being used to plink beer cans at 50 yards but for self defense it's perfectly fine. :)

Odd though, I've never had a single problem with my grip screws. And I think that if I got one of the wrap-around grips on Kahr's website (http://www.kahrarms.com) that it would prevent that part of my hand from getting red and chaffed as easily. Just holding a bare piece of plastic in your hand will get to it when shooting a firearm. Could be because the grip is so skinny too.

the recoil is very manageable, the weight of the helps that out. It is not like a 9mm, but is really not bad. I would not shoot it all day at the range, but it is ok to practice a bit and for a carry option.

forgot to add, I am only 5' 10", and 160 pounds. Also if I were to buy one again, I would go with slighty larger frame but that is just my opinion. I have come to find out that I shoot much better and I'm more comfy with larger frames. But this one will do for know, since I just bought it.
