I've bought guns online when I couldn't find the model I wanted locally. I've also bought various accessories, as well as ammo.

Are there things that you generally won't buy online and, if so, why? Conversely, are there things that you generally will buy online and, again, why?

I just wonder how many people need to touch and feel an item at a gun store, rather than buy it online.

Handguns, Rifles, Ammo, Dies, Bullets, Parts, Mags, Cleaning Solvents, Jags, Patches, Boresnakes, Ammo Boxes, Reloading Press, Books, Magazines, NRA Memberships...

As scrat said, pretty much everything but powder and primers. Haven't had a need to buy 32# of powder or 50k primers to make hazmat worthwhile.

I usually buy primers and powder locally, but have bought powder online when I could not get what I wanted to try locally.

I usually buy bullets online, but buy some local as well.

I buy most reloading stuff online because there is next to none locally.

I have bought 99% of my scopes locally so far because I want to look through them first. The couple I have bought online have been inexspensive.

I used to buy guns locally only, but in the last year I have bought some guns online.

I have ordered a couple of guns from local dealers, but prefer to see it and handle it. I will pay more for this priviledge.

I buy accessories locally and online. More online because of slim selection around town.

I like to try to support a couple of local guys when I can, but they cannot compete with some stuff and do not carry it.

I think I've purchased at least one sample of everything over the internet. New firearms, surplus (from the CMP), parts, reloading stuff, ammo, optics, gear, even a safe (RSC). No NFAs, though.

I buy it all online. (If I ever reload, I'll get "hazardous" stuff locally.)

I've bought everything except powder and primers on-line. Those I buy at gunshows. There's a guy here who's normally ~$3.00/lb cheaper then local retail and blows away anything on-line once you factor in shipping and the hazmat fee.

Only bought ammo on-line (500 rounds of .45 ACP, 250 shotgun slugs, and 250 Buckshot) once from CTD, went in with a couple of other people to spread out the hazmat and shipping charges.

cast lead bullets, Simichrome (for cleaning nickel or stainless firearms).

The only things I haven't bought online are powder and primers - the HAZMAT fees are deal killers on that stuff.

I'm in Wheaton, so I've only seen him at the DuPage and Kane county gunshows. Not sure what, if any other shows he does. There's a show at Kane this Sunday, I'll see if I can get some contact info from him, ask if he does any "downstate" shows and PM you with what I find out.

Everything. It's so much easier than to drive to Gander Mountian, Cabelas, and 2 gunshops just to find out they don't have exactly what I need. I could call except the person on the phone is usually clueless. Online I just look it up on Amazon or rangerjoes and I know that I am getting the exact right part or thing.

Well, I saw the guy today. What a jerk. He normally has price stickers on everything on his table. Well today he had Winchester 209 primers on his table, but no price tag. I wait until he's done with another gentlemen and ask what the price of the primers are. "$31.25" he replies. I tell that I'll think about and before I can ask him what other shows he does, he just goes off on me that I'm not going to buy them.

Sorry, I like to go through the whole show, see what's available, figure out what I want to buy (based upon the amount of cash that I brought) and go back and buy. Have I lost out, because someone came and bought what I was looking at, yep, it happens sometimes. Othertimes, I managed to go back and haggle the price down a bit. All part of the experience.

Anyway. I just walked away. I've done a lot of business (probably close to $1000 over the last 3 years) with this guy and he goes off on me because I asked how much he was asking for an unmarked item.

So the only thing I can suggest is go to show(s) near you and see what you can find.

Everything but used guns. I am a little leary of not seeing the firearm until it shows up at my local FFL dealer. Just me but I dont want to agree to buy a used firearm until I have seen it :)

Nothing, nothing at all. If I can't find it locally, I might look it up online, but I'll place my order by phone.

Why? Because I like keeping more people employed. That's just one reason, if you have to ask about the others, I'm afraid I'd be wasting my time trying to explain.

An addendum to Midway. If you don't/won't send me fliers, I won't buy. I intensly dislike trying to read a catalog online, I don't do it anymore.
