Just Picked Up My SIG P226 Sport Stock

Just picked up my P226 Sport Stock 9mm and cleaned it in preparation of going to the range Saturday. Will take it and my new P225 Euro (no pictures of it yet). I just can't seem to take good pictures because my lighting is all messed up so sorry about the quality.

Fit and finish was great. A few tooling marks. If you look closely there's sort of very light swirls on the frame in front of the decocking lever and on the opposite side in the same general area...no big deal though. Slide finish, including inside was superb.

Features different than a P226ST: No rails, extended controls, adjustable sights, soft grips, match barrel, tuned trigger. There may be more but info is limited on this gun for some reason.

My P225 Euro has the serial on the slide, frame and barrel but this gun has the serial only on the slide and frame.

I'll post a range report this weekend. Now I've got to go purchase some pre-ban mags (used to have about 6 like new ones and stupidly sold them)!!!!!

Anyone else have one of these? I can't seem to find much info or discussion on the Stock model.

I am interested in this gun as well. Where did you get it and what was the price if you don't mind.

Keep me in mind when you go to sell it. :) I'll give it a good home next to your VIP. :D

I am looking at getting one pretty soon to shoot IPSC production and IDPA SSP. Looks like a perfect gun. No rail, adjustable sights and heavy enough to tame that ferocious 9mm recoil. ;)

Ya hurry up sell it to Faustulus, so I can try it out!

Be sure to give us a range report, hope the recoil is not too bad:D

Well faustulus, I'll certainly let you know when it is "churn the guns" time again. Actually I/ve settled down quite a bit so you may not be getting this one. I miss my VIP & wish I hadn't sold it :banghead:

robctwo - Sporting Arms (http://www.sportingarms.com) has them on sale but only through 7/31. They are $1059. That's who I bought mine from since Tom is just about 10 miles from me. As of last night the distributor only had one left at that price. Update: today 7/23 Gunbroker has some listed for the first time. One is about $1042.96 (Buds Gun Shop - don't know anything about the dealer) and the other is $1099 from Marshfield Arms (I've purchased from them and they are great). Prior to these lower prices they were selling for around $1249 up.

It IS rather large & heavy for a 9mm isn't it!!! But I had to have it :o

I'll post a range report this weekend.

Nice! What's appealing to me is the "tuned trigger" this SIG has, I look forward to reading your range report. Congrats

Look forward to hearing that report. Be safe.

If you read between the what Fuastulus is really saying......

"hurry up shoot it, get bored with it and sell it to me!"

Oh by the way I just picked up your STI VIP (or should I say QB's old VIP) from our gunsmith. Nice trigger, just like my match gun:what:

:cuss: Why'd I sell my VIP????? Why????? Mention my ex-VIP just ONE more time and I won't be responsible for my actions....:fire:

So faustulus sold it to Tacblack or am I confused???

I am definitely going to the range Saturday morning so I'll post a range report to be sure. I wonder if this P226 can be converted to a 38 super like my P220 9mm was (an ejector and barrel change only)???? Probably not....it was just a thought.

July 25, 2003, 02:21 AM
Don't mind Tac, he confuses everyone. :)
I didn't sell it just had the grip changed to the normal STI grip. Which I (and by 'I' I mean Tac's friend) found out is more difficult than it would at first appear.
I thought about that 226 super thing too, but I decided the mag was too short. Even loaded short I think the rounds would have a problem feeding.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot: :neener:

faustulus -- You're in for it if I ever get to Tennessee!!!!!:cuss:

What's a "normal" STI grip? Thinner/single stack type and if so, is it a gov size that uses "normal" 1911 mags?

faustulus
July 25, 2003, 08:10 PM
:D
I just put the regular STI wide poly grip on it. It is only about 6 mm longer. Feels a little better in my hand and uses the normal 126mm carry mags which now fit flush. So now I can use 18 rounds of super :)

WOW....18 rounds of super in the VIP with a flush fitting mag.......sheer heaven!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I'm really jealous.

PCRCCW -- I bet you've ALWAYS been a brat haven't you....ha ha!!! I may just have to schedule a trip to UTAH.

I'm still planning on going to the range tomorrow and will post my SIG range report. I think I'll take the following:

SIG P226 S (Sport Stock)
SIG P225
SIG P220 38 super
Colt MK IV Enhance SS 38 super
Colt Special Combat Government Competition

That should make me forget that ole VIP (I mean EX-VIP)!!!! :(

July 26, 2003, 12:22 AM
Well with all those other 38 supers and 9mm's you should be able to give a good range report on the new 226 sport. Be sure to include all the details.

Maybe Faustulus can give us a range report on the VIP:neener:

Its 730pm QB still waiting on that range report. Why don't you tell us about the P210 while your at it:D

QB
July 26, 2003, 11:03 PM
Well I was running late today and only got to go to the range for a little while. I did manage to put about 150 rounds thru my P226 Sport Stock. NOT ONE MALFUNCTION OF ANY SORT!!!!! I am not experienced enough to give a technical review but tomorrow I am going to go back to the range and shoot for accuracy. I'll post a target (but don't expect great things from me....I'm sure the gun can outperform me).

I did also shoot the guns I listed in my above post. There was no comparison with the trigger on the P226 Sport Stock and the P220 38 super/P225 9mm. All I can say is that the P226 trigger was very light and very very smooth....just like butter. Shooting the P226 Sport Stock was awesome. Although my intent was just to put a bunch of rounds through the gun, I did occassionally shoot for accuracy and it was stunning. Like I said, I'll post some targets shot at different ranges, hopefully tomorrow night. If not, I'll do it next weekend. Unfortunately I'm not an expert shot but you'll get the idea of what the gun can do hopefully.

I must say that I have NOT bonded with my P210. I just LOVE that gun but unless I concentrate very very hard, I do not shoot well with it. When I DO concerntrate, the rounds are all about in the same hole and/or touching. It is one accurate, smooth gun. But the type of range shooting I do (paper targets, indoor, just for fun), I really enjoyed shooting the P226 Sport Stock better. I felt more at ease with it.

This is an awful statement but: I think I am going to put my P210 up for sale on GunBroker tomorrow. I just don't have the patience to learn to shoot it well and I really like this P226 Sport Stock. I know I should not compare two totally different guns but I think I'll find myself leaving my P210 home more and more in favor of the P226 Sport Stock.....I like it THAT much. Therefore I can't justify having an expensive P210 just sitting in my safe.

First my VIP and now possibly my P210...guns I swore NEVER TO SALE....off to the auction.....will I ever learn?????

More to come on the P226 Sport Stock......

Sounds like a sweet trigger pull. You'll have to tell us about speed and follow ups with the heavy 226 frame. A game gun is all we are looking for:D I will never carry the heavy beast.
I must say that I have NOT bonded with my P210 I feel your pain QB, I have only 6 pistols but have sold 21. If I don't bond and bond quickly its out the door. I have tried to love some guns just didn't work. I have guns I shoot well and easy, if I have to work to shoot it well, its on the way out the door. Just ask Faustulus he was there when I put 2 mags throught the G23 and it was gone.

July 28, 2003, 11:16 PM
You know I was just talking to my FFL about other calibers. Told him if he ever heard anything about them importing these in .357 sig to get me one. I haven't found that they're available in anything other than 9mm.

I have to call SIG about the "barrel" question posted earlier and I'll ask them about other calibers.

Once again, I REALLY like this gun.....awesome. Gun stays right on target and is just "smooth" ...... got 6 prebans in the mail today and can't wait to go back to the range Wednesday evening.

Tacblack -- only 5 pistols? Aren't you getting a little low?
Yes I am, I have trouble "bonding" with my pistols, but I am ungoing therapy to reslove this issue:D

I figure its only a matter of time before you sell something I want:neener:
I wish I lived closer I would just try your guns to see what I wanted next, I don't think your bonding with that 226 sport you'd better dump it now, I'll give you $850. Faustulus won't take care of it like I would:evil:

QB
July 29, 2003, 08:42 PM
Well I actually bought TWO of the P226 Sport Stock and stuck one away in the safe. :uhoh: (SO doesn't know about the evil "twin"). :uhoh:

The second one (2 serial numbers apart) doesn't have any tool marks on the grip like my first one does......not a big deal but I am curious about why one would have them and one not....since the serials are so close.

Probably WILL be selling one if something comes along that I can't resist. I have been looking at an HK Expert 9mm but they really are just a bit big and mags are expensive so for now I am quite happy with what I have.

QB, I had almost forgot you had these. You know with the holidays about, you could make a little extra money selling off that "evil twin" in the safe. I happen to know that Faustulus is a little low on funds, that leaves me:evil:
So whats the long term review sound like?

QB
November 27, 2003, 11:11 PM
Tacblack -- well I now have two HK Experts and an HK Elite (all 9mm) and must say that I have been thinking about selling my "extra" Sport Stock and "extra" Expert. The Sport Stock is heavier than the Expert/Elite and as such it's a sweet soft shooter. Although I have gotten better with the Expert and Elite, I still outshoot them with the Sport Stock. With that said, I really think I should sell the Expert that I have in my safe instead of the Sport Stock. Anyway, I thought that perhaps I could put some laser grips on my other Sport Stock to have a little different toy to play with. I don't currently have a laser and think one might be fun at the range.

I just can't decide what to sell because I hate selling anything these days. However I do have quite a bit of cash tied up in "safe guns". I suppose I will be selling either the extra Sport Stock or Expert (maybe both of them) because Colt is suppose to be coming out with a Special Combat Government Competition in .38 Super in 2004 (hard chrome or two tone available) that I MUST have. And I can't justify buying the Colt without selling something.

Guess the buzzards will be circling overhead very soon!!!!!!!! :uhoh:

November 28, 2003, 05:03 PM
QB, As much as Faust and I may pick on you for having 2 of the same guns. If I could I would too and if you don't have to sell one don't. Faust now has two Sig 220 super's and I have to say its pretty cool.
