Just picked up a jc higgins model 88, 6'' barrel, not too bad a shape, usual scrapes and dings, original grips, works part time on double action, single action ok, rear site missing.
So question is what is typically the problem when you pull the trigger the cylinder turns but the hammer takes rest, and any ideas where I can get a rear site.
my first run in with a jc higgins pistol. have lots of shotguns, this is new to me.
thanks

For whats it worth, your pistol is a High Standard.

Try here for parts:

It is really a High-Standard Sentinel, but I'm not sure exactly which model.

BTW: These things are a real PITA to take apart & put back together.
My advice would be to find a gunsmith who knows how to work on them.

Otherwise, you are liable to end up with a paper sack full of parts.

This "Double-Nine Western" drawing will be very much the same internally as the Sentinal.

Remember, "Slave pins are your friend" when you get ready to put it back together.

Thats it, great thanks, have it almost apart, and the little barb on the trigger appears to be so warn it wont engage, so looks like a new trigger is in the works.
appreciate all the info.
makes it so easy., Now all i gotta do is remember how toput it back together when the parts get here.

I have one of those in my safe. It was my dad's. He bought it sometime back in the 50's. I bet i put a zillion rounds through that thing. Just handling it brings back alot of memories.
