Here's mine, exactly as picked up last Thursday. Note the less-pronounced lettering on the slide.

One more, showing it somewhat flat, and from the "business" end:

His N Hers....

My wife's isn't a "straight" Valtro (http://www.valtrousa.com/) however... tis a bit more of a Jardine's Custom (http://www.jardinescustom.com/) becase he made some special modifications for her such as thinning the grips, lowering the safety and so on.

"Collector Edition" roll mark (http://www.imageseek.com/valtro/sven/oldroll.jpg)

4000+ rounds, main problem is that I have to feed it. ;)

Needs a bath and 'spa' (re-bluing).

...None with fixed sights? Fixed sights with the smaller letters would be very attractive.

Be well!

Are fixed sights even an option?

dubb-1
July 22, 2003, 12:38 PM
A semi custom witout a sight option?

They look like very nice pistols--visible attention to detail. I just hve no use for adjustable sights.

Be well!

July 22, 2003, 12:49 PM
Anybody want to part with theirs long enough for me to get used to the sights?:D

Be well!

Jardine will put whatever you want on it, for a fee.

That's the whole reason http://www.JardinesCustom.com exisits - turn your dream into reality, either working off your exisiting 1911 or building from a Valtro (which I believe Jardine prefers).

So, has anyone actually had fixed sites installed on their Valtro?

I want to get mine hardchromed and have some fixed night sites put on, but I'm too lazy to call and too afraid of how much more it's going to cost. hehe

I noticed the slides appear to have a reddish tinge to them, which is often the result when you try to blue super-hard steel. I'm also not crazy about the heavy polishing that gives a "melted" look to the rollmarks. I think these guns would look much better hard chromed or with a phosphate finish.

There are 2 sets of Hard Chromed Photos here (http://www.jardinescustom.com/custom1911s.html) .

The steel is 4340 and at least in the case of the Valtro handguns that my wife and i have, the blue is so deep you can stick your arm into it :-) The red is a function of the flash on the camera.

They are VERY attractive VERY VERY deep blue (really I'd call it a black) when you see them in person.

I have adjustable sights on mine. I emailed John and inquired about fixed sights. Contrary to rumor my emails have always been answered. (albeit not quickly:)) I was told fixed sights were expected to be available about December. I'll post pics of mine as soon as my camera is returned. Shouldn't be but a few days.

I don't own a Valtro, but I got to examine one of John Jardine's guns once. It had the best facotry blueing I have ever seen. I mean it was absolutely goregous.

All of my 1911s look like crap in comparison! :D

Okay folks, for all of those who have posted photographs (and anyone about to), I am interested.... how many rounds have you put through your Valtro?

Charles

lunde
July 27, 2003, 04:19 PM
For my photos, I put 50 rounds before taking the photos that I posted (without giving it a thorough cleaning), and put another 200 rounds through it since then (but cleaned it thoroughly afterwards). Bear in mind that I picked it up on 07/17/2003, a mere ten days ago.

asiparks
July 27, 2003, 04:35 PM
I've put somewhere between 6000 and 7000 rounds through it in the 8 months I've had it, most of them reloaded 230 g FMJs, coupla hundred assorted JHPs from Speer, Corbon, Winchester and Federal, and a couple of mags of frangibles. I had a handful of FTFs during the first hundred or so rounds, since then not one failure of any kind. Which is rather super, considering that I clean my guns in a rather infrequent and cavalier manner..:D

Sure that will come back and haunt me one day...

Quick question: who did the hard chrome on the Valtros? Now that Tripp Research is getting out of the plating business, it would be nice to know who is doing such good work.

lunde
July 29, 2003, 12:21 AM
Tripp Research hasn't been doing the work on the Valtros. I asked both John Jardine (Valtro USA) and Virgil Tripp (Tripp Research) independently, and got the same answer.

Uh, that's not what I meant. I didn't think Tripp was doing the Valtros. I wanted to know who was doing the Valtros because they do nice-looking work. :)

Yeah, if it takes another 8 months I'll be happy. Some things are worth the wait. :-)

I have never heard a bad word about Valtro .45's.

Still waiting, Theo. :-)
