Right now i have a bolt action .22,double barrel shotgun 12 gage,30-06,and a sar-1.All i use my rifles for is plinking around with..Can anyone suggest maybe a different caliber that is fun to shoot. Was thinking of a hi-point 9mm carbine but not sure yet.Or maybe i should just buy a handgun that doesnt jam every 3 shots like the one i have :( .
Thanks for any suggestions

I don't see much wrong with what you have. But you might consider old military rifles. They can be a lot of fun and inexpensive. My M48A, a joy to shoot and a specimen of craftsmenship cost about two hundred dollars, taxes and all. You can find some cool stuff for cheap.
Or you could add something new and high tech. An AR-15? Or perhaps something really fun like a semi-auto BAR. There are many choices, it all depends on what you want.

Try a lever action. A 30-30 Winchester or Marlin is a good medium range deer gun, and they're fun to shoot.
In the handgun calibers like 45 Long Colt and 357, they're great plinkers with some utility as house guns, introductory rifles for non shooters, and good for smaller game.

i'd advise a heavy barrelled small bore rifle. 243 perhaps? 22-250 and 223 are also candidates for this.
should you buy a new rifle? without a doubt. the hard part is which new rifle to buy? what chambering? scope? how about rings and bases?

You have a basic setup for your plinking, and hunting if you get into that. From your comment about your pistol, that sounds like the upgrade you really need...

How about .30 Carbine? An M1 Carbine would fit nicely in there.

.30 Carbine packaged in a real USGI Carbine is a joy to shoot---not always inexpensive, though. Have to give a nod to the .223/5.56----lots of cheap ammo around for it!;)

I'll second the lever action 30-30. You can find used Winchester 94's for good price. Sometimes in the $200 range. I've even seen new packages at Cabelas and other chain stores for right around $339 with a scope & rings, $299 for the rifle alone. Marlin 336 in 30-30 is another fine choice.
For a hand gun for plinking Look at a .22 Ruger Single Six. a Browning Buckmark Camper .22 or a Ruger Mark II .22. You should be able to find any of these for just under $300. and they all make for fun shootin'/plinkin'.
Even if you buy both new you're in for right around $600 and they are models that you can tune up later if you decide to.
Have fun,

Good God Man!
What is the matter with you?
Any time you have the cash and the desire, you must buy a gun.
It is a sacred unwritten law that is older than the oldest civilization.:D
"Should I buy another gun?"
Good grief. Good thing we caught you in time. You could have used that inadvertently used that money for something else.
Just the thought sends shivers up my spine...
For a good handgun, I would suggest a CZ or maybe a Ruger. Both are inexpensive and good quality.
If you want another good plinker, I suggest getting an old C&R rifle. Mauser, Enfield, Mosin-Nagant-- All are great rifles at pretty good prices.
My personal choice is the MN because of the low cost of the rifle and the widespread availability of noncorrosive ammo for them, but you mileage may vary.
Good luck.

My vote is for the handgun that doesn't jam every 3 rounds.
What is it you have that's doing that?
Can you trade it in on another handgun?
Are you looking for a pistol or revolover?
Do you need a hunting revolver to go with your .30-06?
A .44 Magnum revolver shooting .44 Specials would be a good dual-purpose handgun, plus if it were scopeable (is that a word?) you could hunt with the handgun alone!
A less expensive but durable and reliable pistol is a Ruger P90 in .45, especially with the Hogue grip on it.
You've got a good set going. All you need is a reliable handgun.
Good luck and have fun shopping. ;)

Absolutely. Next question?

Since you have the basics covered with regards to long guns, I'd advise a reliable handgun. It's difficult to beat a quality .357 revolver, or a Glock in the model/caliber of your choice.

P.S.
I like the suggestions for a lever-action rifle. I have a Marlin 1894C in .357 Mag. that's a great little gun. In addition, I often shoot my father's Marlin .30-30. Lever actions are great--affordable, simple, plenty accurate for most situations, (relatively) powerful, and fun to shoot.
