I'm going to turn an old Wingmaster into a HD shotgun. I planned to buy the 18.5" Express barrel since the only short wingmaster barrel is the 20" with rifle sights. I also plan to keep it set up with the short mag tube. My understanding is the wingmasters use a different type of barrel support ring and mag cap and spring retainer. Will the Express barrel work with these? I read an old post about mag caps coming loose when using an Express barrel with old style spring retainer and mag cap.

I've seen polished blue 18.5" 870 barrels with the detent ball. They do exist. Probably a Police model or something.

It's true that the Express barrel has no retainer ball. However, I believe it does have the hole for it. You could probably modify one fairly easily.

Yes, there are 18- 18.5" polished blue Police gun barrels out there. Give Remington a call at their toll-free number, and ask the Parts Department about it. I don't have a part number for one, and the parts list is a gargantuan .pdf file that I'm not going to try to download right now.

Note this isn't a Wingmaster barrel, but a Police barrel- just ask the parts people about an 18" or 18.5" polished blued barrel and you'll be good to go.

I have an express 20" barrel, fixed IC with rifle sights on my 870 Wingmaster. It doesn't look that bad...After all its not for looking at(mostly). It shoots slugs in the 10 ring at 50 yards and thats all I care.

Although, I'm considering reading up on polishing and might make it shine. Like literally.
