Hi I am Mac, just Mac does it ok?

I have been shooting flinters a long time, since 72' anyway, and I was alone with no help, and really had no idea what I was doing. Well things are not like that anymore.

I don't know everything, but I do know alot.

I came here by a hot-link to a story I can't find and read a few things about BP Guns and saw things needed a little tightening up.

There are new idea's around that don't set well with me, and so I prefer the old ways, that worked when they had to work.

I mean no harm, and not seeking any attention, and am not crying foul.

My life is all about woodland skills, and the How To of things. I am a x foreign car tech, dealing with cars and motor bikes long enough to know how many other things work. To me things work with cam's springs and levers..

So guns, are just another machine to me.

If I say something you don't understand the why of ask me. Then after you can decide if there was any wisdom in the words or not yourself.

My main idea is safety for all, and besides I am too old to care much about much else besides my women , my motor bikes, and my guns..

If no one replies to this llittle intro maybe a mod can wipe it out in a few days.

This would be post 3 awesum huh?

Welcome "Just Mac"! It's nice to have another traditional rocklocker on board! Guns are nit "just machines" especially rockers! To properly shoot a flinter you have to be more stubborn than the gun. I am a hidtory buff and my flinters are a big part of it.:D

So pull up a chair, get a cup of coffee, prop your feet up and ENJOY!

One shooter, I too am a hidtory buff, with fur n' featha's. One of these days I guess I will need to fill out my profile, since Texas is a heck of a ways' from New Hampsta'. ( I read typo because I invented typo) :what:

dwave? I kin tell ya' been tippin when ya wrote yer handle theya' Thar's no "w" in Dave..

Next time yer at cleanin' , the rum is for you, and not the bore ok? If you get the brown kinda rum, it won't look like water, and so all you risk is a gulp of bore oil. No harm there, as it'll just really clean out yer alledged system some wicked good. And that will getcha' a whole new meaning to "patches".

Whar's the liars bench? I kin see thar's just gotta be a liar's bench around here some place

Criminy, if you old geezers keepa' posting here, the mods are gonna' be some pissed off at me! How are they gonna delete all this trash I made?

Some ol' gray beard will have a shock seein all this OT stuff, and he'll be wanting my hairs. My hairs are on the Hairs Conservation Program and I don't wanna give any one of them up! I ain't so sure but I think there is a Fedral grant for old geezers who want to retain a little hairs..

K.A.T. uh yer a shooter right? A sipin straw and a pea don't quite cut it... Gitchie a real smoke pole before to long.. Then you will have more fun skinning yer fingers, with real stones, learnin how to swear in good ol' sailor fashion, and if you get lucky firgure out howta' catch a fish with the ram rod...

Now a' don't go spouting off about the new fangled "whosey what's it" trick shooters, with the latest boltleverpumpsemiautolever contrapshuns, as all that stuff is a gimick. I know it, these guys all know it, and deep in yer heart you know it..

One of my favorite things to do is flash the pan when my wife comes in from shoppin, quick like so she don't see the gun. I let out a belch, burp a couple times and sorta wander around lookin lost... I say Hi leigh, which ain't her name, and she just goes all googley and I can tell she loves me.

Crown does that to you. Dwave is short for Dark Wave, it's my gaming handle, use it for the forums shortened. I have been shooting for about 20 years, and gaming for just as long. As far as the Liars bench goes, we don't have one around here, this is the HighRoad. :)

What! No liars bench? What sort of a black powda' place is this? I suppose thar's no camp fire either?

macmac, Iwas like you 1964 bought a noname spanish made percussion gun and had no idea how to shoot it.I got a mould from Dixie and ran my first batch of balls on kitchen stove.Used a soup spoon as a ladle. Good thing I wasn't married I think my wife would have had a lot to say about all the smoke. My only saving grace was the Dixie Gunworkers catalog. In the back of the book was section on shooting flinters and percussion guns and that got me started. I admit I picked up a lot of bad habits but with friends from the forum and all the helpful fooks at Friendship Ind. there is nothing that can't be figured out

Pacho, Little patent breech gun was it? Doncha' just love a capper with a barrel screwed in to a patent breech?
Oh man some of that stuff back in the day was some wicked poor quailty.

I began with the classis "El Cheapo" method myself. I went and bought a CVA derringer kit.. That thing worked, but man was it ugly. Since it worked I bought the CVA Kentucky pistol, and it was a success too. So I bought a CVA "Tower" pistol which looks nothing like a Tower pistol at all, and in flint, and it was a big flop. Most of the time it refused to spark, and I set it off with a lighter.

At the time I was a full bloomed know nuthin, and I cleaned the beach getting more rocks.. At the time I had no idea rocks didn't burn, and I was sure steel didn't burn. Oh Boy how wrong I can be!

I messed around with caseinite, and I messes around with beating a file thin and riveted it to the frizzen face, and after awhile got that gun to fire apx 25% of the time.

I got lucky as I had invested time making them as pretty as can be made, which ain't all that pretty, but they looked good enough to sell to a bar keep, and he nailed them on a wall in his bar.

I went and bought a TC Hawken, which was a big improvement. I bought more TC guns in time, and when I found "Skinners" .... WELL it was like being re-born.

I no longer have the TC guns, and since I am active as a Skinner, and also do Long Hunter, and F&I my guns are more related to that type of event.

I got myself in deeper water here already than I had planned.. It is what I get every time I try to help, which is the whole purpose for my first 2 posts..

Since I was a child I have suffered Insert foot in mouth disease.. I just don't walk in step with the drummer well...

I saw what I consider errors and only wanted to show another way.... I didn't say better, but I believe it is somewhat better.... Now I don't know fur sure about ALL others, but failing makes me learn. I make errors every day, and I just hope I get to learn from them instead of suffer more from them.

Any advise?

I am a New Hampsterite, with all Scott decent on both sides.. A McKay which was butchered from MacKay some place in the 1600's i guess..

I live in a town called Tamworth, which is just a smidegen north of the Ossipee Ring Dike. Almost no one knows it is here, or cares.

I find it most fasintating. It is said to have been taller than Mt Everest once, and is the northern terminal end to a very over due fault. The rock is very ancient as well, and local native cultures consider it home to Manitoe.

If you use any topo map on-line soft ware run the zip code 03864, and back out to find the circle of the mountain base.

Then center the topo map and zoom in dead center to the cauldrea and when you zoom in enough there is a black mark to mark a structure. That is a hell hole trailer I once rented.. I loved that place, even though the trailer sucked.

You could get stinking drunk and fire a 30-06 blind folded and hit nothing more than trees, rocks and maybe an unfortunate moose.

I had several moose eatting from the bird feeder mounted on the window sill, and black bears too, except they tended to tear the bird feeder down.

The first time that happened I thought it was gonna be the BIG ONE, meaning earth quake, and was pretty relieved it was a bear instead.

My wife is a Scott Irish and Cree mix, but she don't look native. She come from clan Gunn and it is said the Gunns and the MacKay's were either at love or war... She does both, and has been tryin' ta kill me since we met.

Never get behind her when she is wench backing in a car... Never!

If you were a Mckay it isn't a good idea to read old lore about Scottland either, when she is the driver. I damn near got hit by a dust cropper doing that very thing while we were in a car..

I know almost nothing about Ohio.. We passed thru on the way west in 05, all interstate riding on our Nomad.. At the time coming out of Pa we encoutered the ground surface for 22 miles.. I hate that surface on a bike.

The first stop over night was near Anderson Indiania out of Alman Ny, so it was a fair days ride.

Oh yeah just 15 miles by road, and less by crow is the Kanc,a local National Park and a part of the White Mountains here. I spend as much time in the woods year round as I can. I find peace there.

Where is a room here for just in general chat, where guns are not the topic, so we can just get to know each other? The General Discusion room seems to be gun related as is every other room?

I posted this here since it is OT anyway.
