After just reading TheHighRoad for a long time, I finally decided to post. This is my Mossberg 590. I souped it up with a Knoxx CompStock w/Hogue Overmold fore grip, bandoleer sling, and M7 bayonet.

5pt, those NEF "Bookends" are a study in contrasts. That 20 looks elfin next to the 10 gauge shoulder howitzer. Interesting how one simple firearm design can be so versatile.

jzimm9mm, welcome to THR!
Dave, I noticed the same thing on that NEF 20...Mom has one for a HD but hers is black stock with the white. ( not tactical , just what came in and matched a business suit she was in...mom's gotta coordinate you know) ;)
Nice 48 , great looking wood!
OK who made the Ted Willams? Looks like a 1200 with a poly ??

jzimm9mm,
First of all, welcome!
Secondly, how do you like the Hogue forearm? I've talked myself out of a heat shield (again) while looking for a bigger forearm first. I think the over-molded forearm would benefit me more than the heat shield.

Darrin,
In my opinion, the Hogue overmold forestock is a big improvement over the oem plastic ribbed piece. It's very grippy and more comfortable too. You are right about the heat shield, I don't think it serves much purpose aside from looking mean. I haven't shot slugs out of it, but maybe that would cause more heat than shot shells. I don't think you would be disappointed with the Hogue stocks.

Yeah the 20 and 10 are so different in size. The Ted Williams is a Sears and Roebuck but it takes all the same parts as a Winchester 1200. And the wood on the sportsman 48 does look nice at a distance but it is a little worn on the forend. And there was a big piece missing from it that I redid myself and I am very proud of it. I will try to post a pic.

Well, I can't let that go on. Here's my favorite Stevens 311. It was given to me by my grandfather. He bought it new in 1954 or 55. It's taken everything from rats in the barn to geese. These days all it kills is clays, but it does it oh so well.

Ok--I'm glad you posted that 311. Nice gun, I too have memories of one.

Nice !! I want to get both of my regular 500's refinished.
Who did the finish? Were they able to refinish the stock as well of did you have to buy that else where?
I'm thinking oliver drab for one and just a regular parkerizing for the other.

Here are the ones I still shoot occasionally. There are others but they are buried too dang deep to bother with........
Top is a Browning Gold Hunter 20 with a 26" barrel. Old story type gun, bought it for a lot less than it is worth just to buy it thinking maybe the Mrs or the kids would shoot it and now it is the number one favorite shotgun. They are going to be lucky if it is not worn out when they get it:evil: , seriously looking for another because it just may be worn out when they are ready for it:what: . 32 pheasants with 32 shells year before last, 39 with 45 shells last year. Nearly 10K rounds down the pipe as I type this. Yeah, I love this little shotgun.
Next down is old faithful Rem 870 in Krylon Extra Crappy Marsh Pattern. What can I say, the things I have done to this lady are truly unspeakable but she still loves me with everything she is. It was the first new shotgun I ever owned. It will be with me till the end. 35K+ rounds downrange since new.
Next down is the finest shotgun I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. my SuperX2 3.5". This thing is a natural born KILLER!!!!!!! It moves like it was made for me, fits me like a kidd glove, and is a bird SLAYER!!!!!! I have not painted it yet, but that is coming. It will look a lot like the 870 above it..... Seriously looking for another because I don't ever ever ever want to face a bird season without one. I had a 19 duck streak with a duck in hand per shell fired year before last, 13 duck streak last year. Talk to waterfowlers to confirm that is near eutopia for shotgunning on waterfowl!!!!!! 34K rounds downrange with this one, LOTS and LOTS of them 3.5" mags.
Next down is a 1974 model 1100. It was the first shotgun I ever owned, and it is just a smidge newer than I am. It is a fixed full choke, and usually shoots skeet when it gets to come out and play these days. Boy do we make some smoke puffs on the skeet field, I typically shoot a 22-24 with it....... It, believe it or not, has the the lowest round count of all the shotguns I own. It shoots where I am looking without a hassle now that I have learned to shoot, so it just does not need any workups. It has less than 3000 rounds total through it lifetime. Pheasants are not safe until they are in the next area code with this gun and a 1 1/4 oz load I worked up. It will REACH!
The last one is the shotgun I have shot the most of all. A Ruger Red Label Sporting Clays, with well over 75K rounds through it. It was the first shotgun I ever spent any serious money on, and between it and the Beretta I had my eye on it was a tough call. This shotgun fit perfectly and the others not so good. I made the choice and it was a good one. This shotgun will outlast me and 3 more like me if it is maintained. Many many straight rounds of skeet and trap have fallen to this shotgun, sporting targets fear it too. It does it all, although recoil with heavy hunting loads is dagummed BRUTAL. I have shot ducks, geese, pheasants, chukar, grouse and someday will take a deer with it.
I am not shooting as much as I used to but my shotguns are not rusting shut. Honestly if I had to pick one the SuperX2 would be a no-brainer, but that little 20 gauge BGH is a sweetie beyond sweetness.......
Did not notice initially but my best buddy in the whole wide world has his little hand and foot in the pic, he is never far from underfoot and I am blessed that it is so.

What's the story behind the lowered recoil pad on your 870? Thanks.

Nice selection of shoties, I started skeet shooting with the Red label 12 ga, mine had over 80 K through it before i sold it to go to Africa on a hunting trip. Got a beretta 682 supersport when I had the funds and never looked back. Still love the Red Labels got a 28ga now.

Mike, to make a long story short I bought the 870 just a couple months into my shotgunning career and I could not hit a barn from the inside with it. I found through trial and error that I needed the toe of the but at the top of my shoulder pocket to hit anything with it, but that hurts to shoot one up there. I went out and bought the morgan pad, chopped 3/8" off the stock (final length) and dropped it as far as it would go before tightening it down. That was a long time ago, and I have not tried it in any other position. I was shooting sporting clays at the time and my scores went from the low 40's average to low 80's overnight. It was a real eye opener to me, and I learned a good hard lesson on gun fit.
The morgan pad used to be pretty common on trap guns, but I am seeing them less often. 30 bucks and you can adjust it for height and firmness. They will save a shotgun that you can't shoot sometimes.
Kudu, oh how I lust over the 682 Gold Sporting........ It is the only 12 gauge shotgun on the market that I don't have that I want.

JeepDriver,
The basic shotgun was done by a local 'smith. He painted the reciever, barrel, and tube with a baked-on paint. He also Parkerized the bolt and action bar.
The stock, foreend, sidesaddle, and a pistol grip were done by Bob Lumpkin, of www.nouglyguns.com. I sent him the parts, and he charged me $60 for the work. Unfortunately, it doesn't hold up well to being dropped into the gravel. :( There are a few minor scratches on the furniture, but it still looks great. He can do just about any color or scheme you can imagine. I highly recommend you check out his website.
