I reside in PA; I want to start shooting BP to take advantage of early rut muzzleloader season and the primitive blackpowder season after Christmas; I want to get a good quality, yet not-so-expensive flintlock so I can use it in both seasons; I am a complete novice to muzzleloading and need FREE sources of info on the internet
thank you...

Well not really free but if you can afford 2 hamburgers and fries and make drinks at home you can afford a good book.
Look on e-bay and buy one of the Sam Fadala BP handbooks. I just bought a second and they are pretty much all the same. Mine cost about $9.00 with shipping. I can read it in bed and on the toilet (try that with your desk top) and they are the best and most informative BP books i have read.
I almost gave up on BP rifles when the first one i bought came with a starter kit. It had nothing that resembled accuracy until i started reading and discovered that the starter kits .010 patches were being burnt up from powder heat. New pillow ticking patches .018 thick solved the problem.
Now i would laugh at someone who didn't know this but at the time i was on my own and had no help. It was a fluke i found that first SF handbook. A few days of reading and i was making my gun shoot amazing groups. Plus i learned history and how to make traditional stuff for my gun. Its all good and if you choose the internet method i'm sure you will be ok.
You are in for a real adventure if you take this past just buying a gun to extend your hunting season. There is a whole new old world to be discovered with some fascinating history if you care to look. Good Luck, Thomas
