geophysicishooter December 13, 2007, 11:23 AM the XD has more features like the loaded chamber indicators, safeties and such. the sigma is kind of a bare bones poly gun. I own a 40ve and I like it but I suspect most people here will tell you to go with the xd if you can afford it. really there's little comparison between the two besides the round it fires. Markbo December 13, 2007, 11:44 AM I bought an XD 40 last year and am very happy with it. For the money, it is hard to beat. Comes in a nice case with a holster, mag holder and loading tool... which you will definitely need! Despite it's diminutive size, it is a substantial handful. There is obvious weight to it. With the extended mag, the hold is very full and familiar. With the short mag, you get a good 2 finger hold ala baby Glocks. I have not found that to be too much of a hinderance in short range work. I put a mini light on mine, which is blazingly bright for it's small size. I don't carry mine on my person since I have something else I prefer, but I do carry it in my auto. I would not hesitate to recommend this little gun which to me feels way better than the baby Glock, which I just don't like at all. ETA: FWIW I don't know why, but mine has an obvious preference for 180gr loads. I tried out about a dozen factory loads to see what it would shoot best and it's 3 favs are all 180gr, so my handload practice loads are too. jlpskydive December 13, 2007, 11:55 AM I have a XD40SC and the Tactical version. I love them. They are about all I shoot now and I carry the SC daily. Get the XD. charby December 13, 2007, 11:56 AM I used to own the 40VE. Didn't particularly care for it. I sold it and used the money towards a XD-9. I went with 9 becasue of cheaper ammo. I'll have a 40 again someday. Get the XD. 1911user December 13, 2007, 02:08 PM XD At first I thought this was a trick question, but it seems legit. Those 2 pistols are not even in the same league IMO. D-Man December 13, 2007, 02:15 PM Why are you looking at the Sigma as opposed to the newer and much improved M&P? djv3 December 13, 2007, 03:34 PM Price, if I were to spend over $600.00 on a handgun I would probably go with the Kimber Eclipse II. Quoheleth December 13, 2007, 04:35 PM If price is a factor, get the Sigma. It's better than nothing. It's generally regarded as reliable, but accuracy can be hampered by an otherwise heavy trigger. If you have $500 or so, go for the new XD. Might also consider the Smith & Wesson MP, sub compact model. It feels pretty doggone good. And, Smith is running a rebate deal right now (thru 1/28/08) for $50 rebate plus 2 free mags. (FWIW, that rebate is also available on the Sigma). Don't forget the used market, if dollars are tight. Saw a used XD compact .45 the other day that looked brand new. XDs have been around for while and are becoming more available at good, used prices. Saw a full-sized XD9 this afternoon for $350 - right there with a new Sigma. See what I mean? Best of luck shopping! Q djv3 December 13, 2007, 04:40 PM thankS D-Man December 13, 2007, 05:13 PM A quick check at Buds Gun Shop shows that the XD is selling for $20 cheaper than the M&P ($469 vs. $489). Now the XD does come with those extra items (loader, holster, mag pouch) that you may or may not find a use for. The M&P will get you a $50 rebate and two additional magazines, so in the end the M&P would be a better deal price wise. Though the Sigma does beat both of them in price by about $140 going by Bud's site. The most important thing would be to get a feel for the Sigma, XD, and M&P to see which one feels good in the hand, and if possible shoot them. That will be the biggest deciding factor. possum December 13, 2007, 05:19 PM there is no other polymer pistol that i would pic over the xd i own he 4" and the sc .40 and they are both ecellent guns. i have eperience with the sigmas and didn't lik em, i would take the xd, i is accurate even the sc, reliable, shoots well, recoil is a non issue even with the sc, great feel and shootability.
