So I have an SKS with a nice new ATI stock on it, but finish on the metal is pretty worn. I want to have it refinished....where do I go? How do I do this? What kind of finish? I'd prefer not to pay too much.
Thanks,
Tim

To save money, you could use one of Brownells spray-and-bake finishes. They stink while baking, so make sure that everyone who cares is away for a few hours.

Anything done by a gunsmith may be superior, but might cost more than an SKS is worth.

Hmm...
Forgot to mention I do NOT want to do it myself. I guess you may be right though. Anyone else?

I can personally recommend Mac's Gun Restorations, www.shootiniron.com - I know Mac personally, he's a good guy, and he's done real nice work for me.

I do, however, feel compelled to insert a caveat about SKS's and California law - the Roberti-Roos "Assault Weapons Ban" may or may not affect your rifle, so I'd be VERY careful about sending it off, especially if a refinisher like Mac might get himself in dutch if he tried to send a banned weapon back to CA. Were I in your shoes, I'd do the Brownell's "shake-n-bake" finish myself, and try to keep a VERY low profile...

The rifle is legal, I bought it from a local gun store. Thanks for the recommendation.

Cool, that place looks like they do some nice stuff. Any others I should consider?
