Help with an old Win Model 12?

Went to help out a buddy of mine today, he got a new gun safe so that he could finally get his guns out of storage.

In unwrapping a nice selection of rimfires, we found a rusted model 12 that judging from the internals had never been cleaned. Bore is bright, marked as 12 guage and 2 1/2 chamber. He was ready to consider it a lost cause, but I have a soft spot for mistreated guns.

Long story short, after finally getting her back together the shell stop doesn't seem to work - after putting a shell in the magazine, it can slide right back out. I don't know if it ever really worked well, because I didn't want to put shells in the chamber before cleaning it. Can anyone help/point me at a manual with instructions? If anyone has a pdf they could send me that would be great. I just don't want to haul it to a gunsmith and have it be something that I just put back together wrong. Any advice?

IIRC when the action is closed on a M12 the shells are actually held in by the carrier. The shell stop is only meant to prevent more than one shell from feeding when the action is cycled.

I remembered seeing this some time ago and decided it would be easier for me to find it again than for you to start a cold search: http://www.nrapublications.org/TAR/Winchester12.asp

Look to the right for a schematic and parts list. Look in the article itself for dissassembly instructions. I don't know if it will help but just in case ...
