Can anyone ID the marking to the right of the serial number on this p.38? It is an early post-war slide mated to a post-war mauser steel frame. Any help appreciated!

The mark appears to be a rifle crossed with a scope. My WAG is maybe a rifle club or hunting club in Germany or somewhere else where individual pistol ownership was banned but clubs could own guns.

I couldn't find anything even remotely like that in a book I have on German proof marks. Try asking over at the p38forum; see if anyone over there has ever encountered something like that.
