Hey;
Did a lot of bullet testing this year and now have killed some critters with the Barnes Red Hots. My son and I used these in our Encore for hunting this year and are very pleased with the results.
I use the 250 grainers and my son shoots the 300s from .50 cals.
we have not been able to recover any of the 300s but have recover 2 of the 250s that killed deer. Some of you may have seen the photos of the deer in my other thread. So I won't bore you with that here. The photos show what they look like after the kill. I weighed these and they are still 250 grains each.
No lost weight, 100% expansion and extremely accurate in my gun.Holes all touch at 100 meters. These were not fired at magnum specs. They ran around 1600 plus fps. The first one with the most expansion took a nice 9 pointer at 65 yards. The second one with a little less expansion took a 3 pointer that needed to go, at 120 yards. The neat thing about these is they will give maximum damage to lungs and things like that. With out the nasty problem of finding bullet parts in your meat at the table.
I also took a nice coyote at 40 yards the other day. 1/2" hole in and 1" hole going out. I can fix that. These are so accurate I take Woodchucks at over 100 yards with them. Anyway, For those of you that don't like chomping down on metal at the table these are awesome. You know when the bullets hit because they smack really loud even on deer. So far there has not been a need for an exit hole, they dont get far when hit by these things.;)
Not sure why pics are not showing, I'll try again.

In another thread Mykeal pointed out that when you use the attachment method of displaying pictures they can only be in one thread at a time. SO I would copy the picture to a different file name and upload them to photobucket, or what ever else you are using, and then post using the new file names.

I thought a bullet made from 100% copper was considered "armor piercing" and was illegal?

The Fed's definition of armor piercing clearly allows it if it is determined by the U.S. AG that it's use is primarily intended for sporting purposes.

See 18 USC Section 921 (17) B & C below:

I took a look at the Barnes web site and they don't list a bullet called the "Red Hot." The bullets they list, for muzzle loaders, are the EXPANDER MZ, the SPIT-FIRE MZ and the SPIT-FIRE TMZ. When you say "Red Hots" what Barnes bullet are you talking about?

Sorry about that . The Barnes "Red Hot" is the name that "Knight" Gave them.
They are MZs.
Made by Branes and Packaged for Knight.
