quickie range report: CZ75 SA

My used CZ75 SA showed in the mail today so I dutifully filled out reams of paperwork and waited for someone I'll never meet to tell someone I hardly know that I am, in fact, a good boy.
I snatched up 100rnd of range reloads (mandatory at my local indoor facility) and ran my target out to the obligatory 7yd line :) . I don't have any leather for it and only 1 real mag (and 1 crippled postban frankenmag) so I started with Bill drills 'drawing' off the table top.
The gun is easy to shoot and feels nice in my hand. I like the larger safety on the SA model; it's ambi too, which I didn't know until I got it. The trigger has a bit o'creep but has a fairly good break. It's no 1911, but it ain't no Glock either ;) . The grip angle has me shooting just a tad high, so my Bill drills tended to be just out of the A zone, but with the additional weight and bbl length (recently been shooting a G19) I was able to go really fast and not pay for it very much.
I had 1 jam in the 2nd Bill Drill: FTFeed from the std mag. The spring feels a little wimpy so I'll put in an order to Wolf when I get some more mags. After a bunch of hosing I ran the paper out to 25yds and printed 3 5shot groups. The best came in at 2.5in, the worst just under 4 with a flyer. Take away the flyer and I was right at 3". Seems fine to me, but I'm not a big group shooter anyway; my attention span is too short.
After this I dumped 31 rnds of 124gr GoldDots thru it (my old carry ammo; I was switching it out today anyway) with out a hiccup. I ran these thru 15rnds at a time (and then 1 lonely rnd :) ) as fast as I could pull the trigger just to see if I could make the gun bobble. No failures at all, and I was pleasantly surprised to have a 9" 31rnd group at 7 yds with an average split time of .19sec.
This is my 1st CZ and so far, I'm very happy with it. It's probably a bit big for me to wanna carry, but I got it to make a racegun out of anyway so thats not gonna be an issue.

I feel the same way about the gun...love it. My PCR and my SA are the only CZ's I have currently and my fave is the SA.
PCR is a better carry gun but the SA is the better all around gun. The metal CZ triggers that have dual adjustments are the best $ you can spend on it...and a little trigger job.
This breaks at about 3 1/2 #'s and is set up nicely. Total trigger pull on it is just over 1/4" with the screws adjusted "my way". :D
Accuracy wise, it grouped with my Kimber that was smithed a tad also, both will stay around 1" from a rest at 25 yds...at least when OTHER people shoot my gun it, does it! :scrutiny: :D
As a race gun goes.......... The CZ OEM Champion trigger group will make the gun absolutey scarey...I shot one that had a 1# "sneeze" trigger...like a 20 year old 357 model 60 with the hammer cocked.
:what:
My smith says they are the hardest parts hes EVER seen and wont do them anymore. The last one ate his tooling.
CZUSA has the parts, call 800 955 4486 and talk to Mike. He can set you up. I believe you can get after market breaks and such, for them also...if not from CZ, Springfield P9 stuff fits them too. It should be fairly common to find.
Good aftermarket adjustable sights are around and fairly priced.
EAA has ALOT of race gun goodies you can get and some parts will go right on the CZ also.
Thanks for the range report.....enjoy your gun.

Congratulations on a very good gun. I have one myself. I wish they came from the factory with a metal trigger. I have enjoyed shooting mine, and it shoots very tight groups. I mean, I have a Kimber Target Series I. If I shoot hardball out of both, the CZ will keep up with the Kimber. I don't regret that purchase at all.
A box of Win White Box Value Pack from WalMart, and an evening at the range with the CZ makes for a fun time.

Damn, PCR, your's is kinda sexy lookin...mine's actually a bit of a beater :) .
Are the grips pictured there thinner than the stock plastic ones?
I dunno if I could deal with a 1#trigger. I have a rifle at about 2.25# and it kinda freaks me out sometimes :p .

WOW! All I ever read are positive comments, doesn't anyone have anything negative to say about the CZ? If not, why doesn't everyone own one?
Congrats on the acquisition!

Negative comments:
Plastic Trigger
Trigger pull is loooooong and a little weird. Upon pulling final stage, the hammer is cocked back further with the trigger pull.
I still like the gun. I use mine for a range gun. I have had a few FTF's, but it is fun to shoot, and accurate.

I hope to have my CZ 75B by October. Gotta wait for funds. I held a coworker's 75 SA and loved the way it felt. I traded off my Beretta a couple years ago for my .45, but I miss the accuracy and milder recoil of 9mm.
I'm into shooting IDPA and figure that a nice 9mm will help me with accuracy and maybe some speed. Plus, I won't have to chase 9mm brass around forever.

Thanks guys...the grips are Hakans that were kinda in need of help when I got the gun..I redid them. They are thinner than the plastics or about the same. The gun has a stellar trigger with very little take up and reset.
Hope you enjoy your gun..........Shoot well

Bad thing about CZ's: the only CA Legal finish is black polycoat. I'm jealous of the folks in MOST states who can buy the Nickle, Deep Blued, and Duo Tone(black slide/nickle frame.:cuss:
I take mine(full size 75B)to the local range and have recently been blowing my mind by hitting the steel plates at 204 and 240 yards...not ALL the time, but approximately 2 or three out of 10 tries. I can't do that well with my rimfire rifle. I just hope they(CZ USA)don't double the price, now that so many of us are hooked.

Good God! What the hell difference does a finish make to whether a gun is legal in a certain state or not? Because its Satin Nickel" you have a better chance of using it in a robbery? Or its more dangerous than the poly one?
Good luck....................seriously,

I have 3 CZs - the 75SA in .40(no longer cataloged), the 97, and the Champion. None have plastic triggers.

If you bought the gun new the SA does have a plastic trigger. Put the safety on and pull the trigger until it stops...now pull slightly harder...it will flex.
The aftermarket/OEM CZ triggers dont...they make Alloy and steel. Both are dual adjustable..like your champion. The plastic trigger in the SA has the takeup adjustment only.
I sware on it...........Shoot well

and had it apart for an action job. I actually polished the back side of the trigger as well. Mine was metal. They switched to plastic after I purchased mine. They may have kept metal on the .40S&W SAs and put plastic on the 9s?
This was touched on a year+ ago on the CZ forums.
As I said, the 40 SA does not appear to be offered any longer. I've had mine for over 2 years now. Back then they were advertised as being adjustable for take up and overtravel. Mine was not adjustable for both. This was also covered in the CZ forums quite a long time ago and many were screaming false advertising because the literature was saying they were adjustable for both and they actually weren't.
Also at that time it was impossible to get a Champion trigger to even install since the parts weren't available to CZUSA. I do have a spare Champion hammer, trigger, and sear now...finally.
Also, take up and overtravel adjustment are not both available on the trigger itself of the Champion. Only one is. The other screw is internal to the firearm.

Martin

Actually, they put the plastic on Both. You may be correct that a few of the 40's had the steel triggers and they went to plastic later on...Ive not heard of that :scrutiny: But with the hell CZUSA got over them....nothing would surprise me.
With the Champion being a single adjustment, the dual had to be an aftermarket...possibly Tanfoglio part that CZ was using.
Why they went with plastic I HAVE NO FREAKING IDEA??????????????
Its good you have spare Champion parts........I dont know that you can get them anymore from CZUSA.....
If I decide to replace my sear/hammer with harder parts......I may have to get some Tan. parts and just have them fitted.
If I start to compete with my little gun...Ill give it some serious thought.
Shoot well
