My friend and I go shoot out in the boonies. Now I would love to get a metal target that gives a satisfying clink (or dong) every time you hit it OR resets with like a spring or a spinner.

So here is the list o requirements:

It must have a stand - we go shooting in a rocky area, we can't set it in the ground

Strength - Must be able to easily withstand .45 acp (or up to .44 mag, i've seen those too)

Size doesn't really matter, as long as I can carry it the 100 or so yards to the range.

Price: would it be possible for this wonderful setup for <$100? including shipping?

Thanks for the help.

Well, the LaRue is the finest system available, but definitely does NOT meet your $100 price mark.

If you go there and click on video, you can download a 79 meg video of their targets in action.

I've got a metal one that has about a 4" circle on the bottom and a 3" on top that is designed up to .44 mag power. I'll check and see what brand it is. It was reasonable, I want to say about $30 or so.

Do a google search for steel pistol targets.

Under $100 is going to be tough.

The MGM Auto-Poppers (http://www.mgmtargets.com/products/auto_poppers.shtml) are probably the best of the type, but will run close to $250 by the time you add a stand or pipe base. You could probably get the plain targets and fabricate a 2x4 stand...

Jerry's prices are the lowest that I've found and his 3/8" AR500 targets will survive 300mag hits.

Our club has a welder build them for us. you might be able to find someone who welds to put something together for you for a lot less, especially after the cost of shipping. Steel is heavy.

They're more than the $100 limit, but they're worth it.Our club has a bunch of his steel that we use for 3 gun matches, and they hold up very well.
