Hey Ainslie,

You're more than welcome to visit Kluane Park in the Yukon
and try your super soaker bear defense on the grizzlies.
The one's I've seen fishing for salmon don't seem to mind
water being sprayed on them, but then the rivers don't have
the vineagar for added punch like you suggest.

No no. I think the vinegar is used by the bear to add a little flavor to it's meal. Although it could possibly be used as a marinade.

If you're bound and determined to do that sort of thing, forget the water! Use formaldehyde. That stuff, in a water pistol, was really neat to keep dogs from bothering me as I bicycled around the neighborhood, back when I wuz a youngun. That stuff will turn the world's most vicious dog into a screaming, howling mess. Works on people, too.

Carbon tetrachloride works pretty good, as well.

I will personally host the entire "Canadians for Bears" group so they can try their super soakers on the local bruins. I will even taking avoid along any kind of firearm in case things don't work out as planned - of course I'll stand well back and just point out the bears to them...

The sad thing is that someone who doesn't like "icky" guns, and who probably knows little or nothing about the great outdoors, will probably try this and wind up as bear scat. Giving out advice like this borders on the criminal.
