Hi guys, I have a S & W model 12-2 that I want to sell. How much can I ask for it?
I paid $135 for it but I saw one in another gun store for $260.
Here are some pics. The revolver has some marks on the right side.\

Not to snark, but you can ask whatever you want to ask for it, whether you will get it is another question.
Seriously, you might check over on gunbroker.com to see if there are any similar revolvers up for sale. Also much depends on condition, barrel length, and finish. Really need more info or better yet, a picture.

what lurks beneath those Hogue rubber grips...a square butt or a round butt?

Per the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd edition;
ANIB $470
EXC $375
VG $285
GOOD $225
FAIR $175
POOR $75

Those figures were published a year ago, so........

In general these are desireable guns so you'd likely get 200-300 for it without the box and papers. But alot depends on condition and no one can tell that from your pics. You also don't mention whether it is mechanically sound or not, so it's hard to give you an estimate.

Its mechanically sound. It works and shoots very good.

On a side note, open the cylinder and double-check the area of the frame right below the barrel. Some modl 12 have been known to crack at this point when barrels were over-torqued.
It's better to find out before you try to sell it...

From the pictures I would say 200-250$, 250-300$ if you still have the original grips.

Wow, are those X-frame grips on that J-frame?

I think they are J frame but I'm not sure. The frame is not cracked below the barrel, I just checked.

That's actually a K frame (and so are the Hogue grips on it).
