It's probably age, but my right shoulder is very cranky. There are a great selection of OWB holsters for the strong side; however, drawing from the 3:00 to 4:00 position would be very painful for me. I bought a Bianchi 7 tri-slot as it's advertised as strong side or crossdraw but in the crossdraw mode the gun is vertical. I'm thinking that a crossdraw type sould also have 5-15 degrees of cant to make it "wear" better but I can't find anything that resembles this. Anybody have suggestions?

First of all, what handgun do you have in mind, and second, is concealment an issue?

You might check out www.andrewsleather.com. The MacDaniels II Crossdraw is adjustable for cant.

I carry a SIG 229 in an Andrewsleather 'carjacker' type that works pretty well. It needs an overgarment to conceal however.

Cant on that one is extreme as the gun is much more near horizontal. That might work for you without pain.

Good luck finding what you need.

As far as the gun involved, I may own it already or I may not. Right now my favorite is a SW99 in .40 but I may even find something a tad smaller. Yes, reasonable concealment would be a good thing. I'll look at Andrews, thanks...

Sounds about right....Anything on my hip is cross-draw...The range of motion doesn't bother me and speed from either side is a neglible factor..
Wide arrange of holsters from used on eBay to new from many mfgrs..
Find a good one...:)

Check out the Bianchi "Cyclone" Model 111.

It can be worn strong side OR cross draw.
It has belt slots that tilt the holster for cross draw to the ideal angle.

I've found any good strong side holster does double duty as a cross-draw holster. In fact, I carry weak side in the morning, strong side in the afternoon for the sake of my back.

I don't have any advice on a cross draw holster, but I would like to just say that you should probably drop by an orthopedic surgeon to have that shoulder looked at. You've probably done some damage to your rotator cuff, and if it's just minor it can be handled with physical therapy.

Fixing the shoulder is probably a better solution than building a life around a busted arm. I had my shoulder fixed last year - it's hard work, but worth it.

Of course, there may be more to the story. There usually is... Good luck with the holster and your shoulder!

I have to agree with you at 61 now I seem to have the same problem with strong side high ride holster's did have my shoulder check out seem age is gaining on my bones : I find for me and my 1911 Bianchi Shadow holster works best for me as strong side carry.
I am not a fan of IWB holsters but cross draw may be my next choice

I've had my shoulder checked out and basically it's just worn out. Old football injuries finally caught up with me. I take a lot of Glucosamine and try to keep it stretched out and it's not getting worse. The only time it really hurts is reaching for my right rear pocket. I carried my wallet there for years and now it's on the left. Shoulder carry will be good for winter, still looking at options for summer...

Have you tried a shoulder rig, I have a real bad back, have had surgery and all that good stuff. I found that a shoulder rig was much better for me. Is it the upward movement, because the shoulder rig will use more side to side than verticle pull. Only other option is the Fanny pack. In Fl. they are pretty common, and you can rotate it from one side to the other. I can pull my 38 out in about a second, if I need to, but need both hands to make that happen, good luck. I went back to the celebrex, my heart is strong I still do my cardio every day, no matter what.

I know about cranky shoulders, and wrists, too. Crossdraw is one solution, but there is also the option of a more vertical draw, from a holster worn farther to the front than the "FBI" position. I have long preferred a straighter draw, worn at 0300, and in some clothing that migrates to more like 0200. A holster worn forward of the hip can benefit from the same slight muzzle-forward-rake angle the same as crossdraw. BTW, it's not just me building a lifestyle around a gimpy shoulder and wrist; I have long arms and a short torso, so 0230-0300 with a vertical draw is best for me, regardless.

A friend of mine has one of these Haugen SSCD holsters, and I was very impressed with it. The quality of work is very nice.

They also have this model which is more straight-up:

I just ordered two of their Speed Scabbard OWB holsters for myself.

shoulder rig: with a few bad disc in the neck area even a heavy jacket is a NO NO
I just had 2 disc removed from the cervical and seem all my shooting is on hold ;The doctor say I should be a good as new in about 6 months
I don't feel that bad neck in sore. The pain has decreased I think the drilling and screwing and adding a few screws and plates take a while to heal.
