Will be in MBSC for vacation in May or June. Would like to take a day off the beach and take a gun class, maybe the SC CCW course.

Recommendations on trainers in that area ?

Unless you own property in South Carolina, they won't grant you an Out of State Concealed Handgun license. They also have reciprocity with very few states.

Check out the Myrtle Beach indoor shooting range while you are there. it's right off 17 bypass behind the old myrtle beach air force base. Ted and Connie own the range and they are really great people.

There are several good instructors in MB, for basic CWP classes I would go with Billy Rivers, who teaches at the MB Indoor Shooting range referenced above. You can schedule your classes through the shooting range.

Yeah, Ted and Connie Cragg are good people. The CCW course is 8 hours, and you have to be able to prove that you own property in South Carolina if you are not a resident.

8 hours in those metal chairs is a looooong time.

Ted and Connie are great people, but I wouldn't buy a gun from them on a bet due to their insane prices. :)

Yeah, their prices are a bit on the high side, but the service & selection are pretty good, especially considering the lack of alternatives in this area. There is another shop/range in Murrells inlet whose name escapes me, real nice indoor range but they tend to carry a lot of really pricey gear.

I don't want to apply for the SC permit...just take the class.

If you are going to spend money on a class, but don't intend to get the permit, I would not pick the SC CWP class as the one to take. Its really a waste of time as far as learning anything meaningful.

It is almost all classroom instruction, at the end of which you take a common sense written test that you could score 100% on right now without even trying. You *may* have some interesting off-topic discussions with the instructor during the classroom section, depending on the instructor of course. This would be the only thing worth going to the class for if you are not planning to get the permit.

The shooting portion is 50 rounds at a B27 target from various ranges 7-15 yards or so (I forget the exact specifics now). Once again you can score 100% on this without even trying, as anything in the black is a "hit", and anything outside the black is a "miss".

Trust me, its really not worth it. I would look into other alternatives. Maybe that range offers some actual shooting classes?
