Lets say that, hypothetically, I needed to get a receiver and a parts set for a FAL (metric), but I did not need a barrel (its a project gun). Where is the best place right now to order the parts set and receiver? As far as receivers go, I'm thinking Imbel...

Thanks,
Mike

TAPCO for parts, FAC for receiver just my opinion, or surf over to www.falfiles.com and check out the "Marketplace" . :D

Tapco is good, I've got plenty of stuff from them. I would also recommend a parts kit from DSA Inc. (http://www.dsarms.com/) I got a nice G1 kit from them.

FalFiles (http://www.falfiles.com/forums/) has a wealth of info if you haven't already been there.

FAC has good stuff too, but quite a long time to ship your receiver. I waited almost 3 months for my Coonan receiver.

The Coonan receiver is probably the best buy out there. It's a "Type 1" receiver with the lightening cuts, etc, and looks a lot better than the Imbels which are just blocked off for quick manufacture. The finished rifle just doesn't look as good with a Type 3 receiver though as far as function goes, either receiver is just fine.

The Coonans go for $199 at FAC. The Imbels are about the same price, or maybe a few bucks less.

Any FAL parts kit you get is going to come with a barrel, of course you can sell the barrel. If you only want the other parts then Tapco is your best bet. If you get an IMBEL parts kit then I'd go with the IMBEL receiver. If you got a STG-58 or G1 I'd go with the Coonan type I from FAC, they have had good reviews.
