I have a ten year old S&W 642. Carried almost daily. The stainless looks fine and the anodized aluminum still looks pretty good. I have a S&W 44 Spec Titanium/Aluminum wondergun that looks like dookie after just a year or two. What is that silver "paint" they coat the aluminum with nowdays? Anybody know how to touch it up? Other than cost and maybe the color match to the Ti, anybody know why they quit anodizing the aluminum? Bottom line, I'm not very impressed with the silver applied finish.

Hmmm. I'm trying to think what they could put on aluminum that would resist the acetone cleaners used on guns. maybe some kind of a catalyzed epoxy that is baked on? I don't know why they wouldn't use anodizing unless it's just to get a glossy finish.

Whatever you use to touch it up will probably come off with cleaning solvents unless it is specifically designed to resist them.
