One is the loneliest number, sung to the tune of "I got a FAL for Christmas"

One FAL is a lonely FAL. My pseudo South African R1 was sad. Sharing spare with shotguns and assorted rifles and handguns, but no other FAL to share time with.

This summer, my wife got me a Type 1 receiver to go with an Imbel kit I had. In August, an assorted box of goodies went to Rich at CGW to be put together. Last night I came back from a quick business trip to find this waiting in the living room.

Now I have two and my FAL's aren't lonely anymore.

Sunday I head to Phoenix for a week and the pinned 10 (converted 20's) round magazines get exchanged for a week or so. :)

Soon, FAL monster grips will be out and the pinned magazines can go away forever.

My new FAL. DSA Type 1, Imbel kit, and some Isreali furniture

Nice FALs. I'm looking to put one together very much like your new one. With a DSA Type II receiver and a STG short flash hider, however. Gotta' love that Izzy furniture. Anybody got a line on a source for nice, complete Izzy light furniture sets?

The Israeli furniture was pretty common for a bit, but it seems to have dried up. Keep your eyes open over at FAL Files in the marketplace.

Yeah, I should have bought the complete kit when Gunthings had them in stock. Of course, at the time I had other priorities.

Jeff,
are you using a BB or other method for the mag release?
I have seen the AR and AK maglocks, butnever one for the FAl and just curious how its done.

Drill out and tap the magazine release using the hole for the spring and insert an 8-32 set screw, remove the magazine release spring, insert your 10 round magazine, and tighten the screw. You now have a fixed magazine weapon that requires a tool to remove. Load either through the ejection port (very easy on a FAL) or get a stripper clip dust cover.

There is a nice link showing how to do it somewhere, but I can't find it.

The nice part is that it's correctable when you cross state lines. All you need is a non-modified magazine release and your spring.

Monster Man grips for the FAL are supposed to be an early 2008 reality which makes the above a moot point.

With a fixed magazine, your other "evil" features don't count, but I used a fake flash hider on both so when I convert to the MMG, I can use all the 20 round magazines I've been sitting on. You can also go bare muzzle if you remove the threading.

Good looking rifles but does the install of the Izzy parts violate your 922 compliance or does that not apply to these rifles? I had to replace alot of parts on one of my AK's to make it all authentic!

Only the furniture is Israeli. Piston, pistol grip, hammer, trigger, sear, muzzle device, and receiver are US made (same on both rifles).

When I read your title, I thought you were writing a song.

Guess not.

OK then... maybe I can help.

(Sung like "The twelve days of Christmas")

I got an FAL for Christmas and all I really need is a bipod and a new sling.

Surely you can see where this is going!

Not too hard to do with the Series. Plus you have the added benefit that any guns stored any where near it will never rust due to the proctective coat of 90w

:D

That makes perfect sense on the mag lock. I had never even thought of that. I wonder if a small 4-40 could be used. It might fit inside the spring. That way when you cross the border you just remove the set screw and it still functions. No need to remove/reinstall the spring.

Just arrived at the house in Phoenix and have unneutered the rifle. Plan to hit Ben Avery later in the week to break the new one in.

The Series makes a great backdrop for gun pics. Now I just need to mount the MOD rifle brackets in it. :D
