Switching 870 extended mag tube back to short

Hello folks-
I've been considering 'dressing down' my 870, which is the police model with the factory mag extension. There are some other aftermarket alterations that I can easily change, but I don't have the parts to switch the mag extension back down to what would be the normal or short length.
Does anyone know exactly which parts I will need to do that? I had assumed only the cap and the spring, but when I called the local shop to get a verbal price estimate, they said around $40-50. Seems a bit high to me.
Anyone know?

You need three parts:
This spring: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=10806&title=MAGAZINE%20SPRING&s=27254#27254
for 4.98
And a magazine cap : http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=10517&title=MAGAZINE%20CAP,%20INTERNAL%20RATCHET&s=26937#26937
for 15.61
and a spring retainer: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=10939&title=MAGAZINE%20SPRING%20RETAINER,%20RATCHET%20STYLE&s=27393#27393
for 4.95
If you think you'll want to mount a sling to the shotgun though you will need a forward sling stud. Uncle mikes makes a replacement magazine cap http://shopping.msn.com/Prices/shp/?itemId=175595236
That you can substitute out for the one from brownells above.

PS- Anyone know where to get the two receiver plate pins/screws that are replaced when you add on a sidesaddle? Mine has been on so long I've lost the pins...

Brownell's has a complete stock of Remington factory parts, including the takedown pins.

You might want to consider Brownell's anti-walk trigger pins instead of the factory pins. I've had the factory pins work loose on an 870. These don't (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/productdetail.aspx?p=20694&st=078-000-048%20&s=45844).

I'd be interested in rcmodel's opinion of them.
Rcmodel, not to hijack this thread but have you been successful in straightening the 870 action bar at the very end where it should meet the action bar lock? I have an 870 here in which it rides slightly out at that point, just enough so it can ride over the action bar lock intermittently. I tried bending it and even peening it, with just marginal success. Any suggestions? Otherwise I'll replace the assembly when Brownells reopens.

I'd just replace it I think.
Once they are bent, they tend to lose thier desire to stay un-bent!
Or so it seem's.

Okay, so it wasn't an illusion. I'll try Brownells again in a few days and order the replacement.
Thanks for responding. My apologies to the original poster for this brief side trip I hope it might be useful to others too.
