Not going to speculate, sorry for the families.

I can't help but wonder if the BG's disregard for law and citizens unable to Conceal Carry--especially around College Campuses -played a part though.

Three Bodies Found Near Ohio State University

Thursday, July 24, 2003

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A woman and two men were found bound and shot to death in a rented house near the Ohio State University (search) campus, and police said they had no suspects or possible motives for the slayings.

The victims included an OSU student, her boyfriend and his roommate. Another roommate who had spent Tuesday night at a friend's house discovered the bodies in an upstairs bedroom when he returned home about noon Wednesday.

Several neighbors reported hearing gunshots between midnight Tuesday and 1 a.m. Wednesday. Witnesses also said they saw two men running from the house after hearing shots.

The dead were identified as OSU student Kayla Hurst, 21; her boyfriend, Aaron Grexa, 22; and Eric Hlass, 23.

Officers were still on the scene late Wednesday looking for clues at the gray, vinyl-sided house.

Friends filed past the house all day, sometimes stopping to cry and hug one another. Some onlookers set up lawn chairs in the afternoon before downpours scattered the crowd.

It's not just college campi where we are disarmed in Ohio. Unfortunately, all proposed CCW reforn to date has maintained many disarmed victim zones, including any place students are likely to gather.

I haven't heard anything about it lately, but there was a series of rapes on/near OSU earlier this year.

But the Campus & Columbus City Politzie still only advocated locking doors/windows, etc. Whistles/horns/pepper spray type stuff. NO mention of large metallic objects that go BANG!

Still don't have CCW in Ohio, Courtesy of Guv. Booby "Flip-Flop. Which way is the wind blowing NOW?" Daft and the Spineless Ohio Senate.

Last, but certainly not least, my most heartfelt condolences to the families.

And to think, my roommates wonder why my 1911 stays loaded. DUH!!

That neighborhood is terrible. Pretty much anything south of Chittenden on the east side of High St. is not a good place to live. It bothers me just to drive down 11th and get stuck at a light.

foghornl, More than once OSU PD stated publicly that guns weren't the answer because they were there to protect us. A lot of good that did. I talked to a few CPD officers during the height of the big rape scare. They seemed to be in favor of students arming themselves. I asked one officer if one were to encounter that thug, should they call CPD before or after they empty the mag in their gun. His response was, "empty, reload, repeat until you run out of mags, then call us."

I haven't heard anything about it lately, but there was a series of rapes on/near OSU earlier this year.In a classic example of the media, by nature, being biased towards sensationalism, we heard for months about how there was a mad rapist on the loose, and how we should all live in fear and blah blah blah blah.

Then, when he is caught, there is a mention of it for one or two nights, and you hear no more about it.

Folks, you don't hear about the OSU rapist anymore because he was caught and plead guilty. Kennedy Wheeler (http://www.nbc4columbus.com/news/2338436/detail.html) is going away for a loooooooooooong time.

And as to the police advocating guns for defense, this is dicey for two reasons. 1. Carrying them concealed is still a felony, and they're not going to advocate anyone committing a felony. 2. We all agree that having a gun but not having the right mindset is a bad thing. I'm pretty pro gun (duh), and I'm leery of advising people that a gun is a good idea for self defense unless I know that the person I'm advising has the right mental attitude.

As to the triple homicide, my first guess was that drugs were involved, and recent releases by the CPD spokesman seem to reflect this fact. I'll be dead last to blame the victims (no one deserves to be shot down like a dog in their own home), but it sounds like there were some lifestyle choices that turned out to be regrettable on the part of at least one of the victims. But, as I said, tragic nonetheless.

And, Pete...your 1911? Do you have the front sight clued on tight now? I heard the red locktite does a great job on gun parts. :D
