I'm considering getting a TC Encore Blackpowder setup next year to be able to do some more deer hunting (add'l season in Illinois). One way I could justify the cost would be if I could put a .50 BMG barrel on it . . .but I don't know if anyone makes one or if the action is strong enough to handle it.

Anyone seen one, shot one, or know the answer to that question?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

The Encore frame is inadequate for 50BMG as well as many of the new breed of shortfat magnums. There is just not enough steel around the chamber to keep it safe, courtesy of the narrow spacing of the pivot and frame.

Thanks! I guess that answers that. I can go with a cheaper muzzleloader then as I can't think of any other "single shot" I'd want where I wouldn't buy a different rifle instead. (Ruger #1, etc.)

Dave

you can always do a 50 Alaskan, or one of the 50-XXX chamberings...I have also seen some of the 470 Nitro and similar chamberings in an Encore....

Do you really need a 50 BMG? :)

I know MY answer....it would be yeah. :D

A .50 cal Browning in a 20 pound rifle is hard enough to handle-yet alone the Encore? I'll pass on the surgery and detached retina.

they make a .50 bmg pistol I don't think a 50 bmg carbine would hurt you. Practical now that is another story. Don't those things cost like 5 bucks a round? If you want a good acurate NATO round stick with the 7.62x51 a/k/a the .308 you will always be able to find it and it will down just about any game in our side of the globe.

It's definately not a "need" . ..more of a want. :)

I doubt that I'd shoot it that much so having the money tied up in an encore barrel would be alot easier to stomach than having 3k tied up in a Barret. (or whatever they go for now.)

Have a good one,
Dave

The Encore can still be had in a whole lot of other rifle calibers.

if you just have a bmg craving why not get yourself and AR then you can get a single shot upper in 50 bmg for about a grand. It would have you all tied up in the mean gun catagory.

I've got the AR, but it seems like you're going to be 1400-1500 into an upper for one of those by the time you get it all worked out. There are alot of guns in that price range that would jump ahead of it in the desire line. (M1A to name one. :) )
